I would think an ESS would be quite a bit simpler to add to that set-up in comparison to a twin turbo.

You’re probably right, but man would it be nice to run twins (the only power adder I haven’t tried yet)!

I also forgot to add this pic of my clutch slipper device and the relay mounting location for the external fluid pump. The SC or turbo kit would need to have ample clearance of these components as well.

In terms of clearance purposes or overall level of difficulty?
Both, also less overall maintenance and things to go wrong then with a twin turbo kit. A mechanically inclined person can put an ESS kit on a car in 4 hours by themselves taking their time.

If you wanted to keep the nitrous I'd do that kit on 10 pounds then use the nitrous when you wanted that extra kick. Those 2 power adders could be tuned to work well together and still keep the engine alive. Obviously also on E85.

I'd do the same but he seems to really want to keep the nitrous.

Not sure about StangMode’s mishaps, but if I were to do it, I wouldn’t be opposed to stepping down on the nitrous shot to 50-75 hp. I’m not one, who would want to risk running on the ragged edge with my combination. I’d always err on the side of caution and leave power on the table for the sake of reliability.

There's just no need for nitrous anymore, which is why it's largely dead in the aftermarket mustang community. Now, nitrous is basically employed for crazy high hp street cars that want to cool the intake charge (more as a cooling effect than extra sauce).

Nitrous just adds complexity to the overall system (needs to be tuned for with/without the gas) and another potential failure point on the car. And you can achieve just about anything the suspension can handle without it.

If you're just bent on having it to be different or a cool factor fine, but it's not necessary.

And not for nothing, I know inflation has affected everything, but a buddy who's a wrench was working on a crazy trackhawk build and the guy is using a 300 shot. He indicated that the bottle he had was good for only about 5 or 6 hits and the refills were $200/bottle. (not sure of the size).

I was like mothertrucker, that's roughly $33-$40 a hit! Not including regular fuel.

The other question that I have for the boosted crowd is, would a rear gear swap be necessary?

I currently have a 3.73 Torsen out back and would rather not have to swap that out if I don’t have to.

A 3.73 on a d4 mt82 will work. I'd go to a 3.55 but the 3.73 would work. Worse case you go to a 315 50 17 tire.

I’d like to keep the nitrous intact because I worked my arse off on installing it and it wasn’t cheap either. I would say I have about $4800+ invested. I also hate the thought of having to rip out all of the wiring etc. that ties into other systems. It just seems to me that leaving it installed would be easiest, knowing the level of detail that it took to install everything.

Lastly, the cooling effect would certainly be beneficial. My brother has a Sean Hyland built ā€˜98 SN95 Cobra with a Vortech SC and a 40 hp shot of nitrous for that purpose and it’s worked very well for him.

I don’t pay anyone to do any of my install work and it’s not because there aren’t competent people out there, who can handle it, but rather, after having been screwed a few times on install work, I don’t trust anyone to do it to my satisfaction.

I’ve also spent so much money on this car, that I feel as if pulling parts off and trying to sell them would not only be taking a loss, it would be stepping backward for me.

The cooling stuff was WAY more of a concern back before E85 was widely available. On pump 93, it's beneficial to do even a 50 shot, just to keep the IAT2's reasonable.

Nitrous is generally 120 hp/lb of sauce, so at $8/lb, you're talking roughly $10 for every 150 hp hit.

I mean, it's not VIP bottle money, but an extra $10 tax on every hit is noticeable.

But it seems like you've put a lot of up front capital into it already. I'm not boomerish enough to moan about the price of fuel and lord knows I fill up the car often when I'm hooning around and getting 5-6 mpg, but if I think of it as an extra $10 every time I mash the go button, that would add up for me REAL quick. And I'm already over here trying to ignore the fact that it costs me basically $30 every time I take the car out for a 75 mile cruise.

Laughing gas costs nearly as much per lb as ribeye:) And goes a lot quicker!:)
