DO not confuse this comment with politics. I blame every elected person for this fiasco we have today
That was deliberately done by Congress. They knew damn well if the rulins were proposed and argued on the floor the people would get wise to the screwing being planned and also that the opposition would demand modifications and compromise.

The administrative state will not tolerate debate or pushback. So congress illegally ceded it's power to agencies so the true objective could be realized.

It takes a very simple act of congress to restore the balance of power and force all the underhanded sh+t back into the open.

I have said this before, if you want to truly reduce emissions do a few things.

Make it favorable for companies to let employees work remote, bet levels were way down in 2020 and 2021. Not sure how but some sort of tax credit. Companies will get creative.

If you want me to buy an electric car offer me incentives NOT threats. " Free installation of home charger" or build new charging stations everywhere that don't cost more then gas ( price a Tesla charge )

Just my uneducated but common sense thinking.

Unless you think Co2 is a pollutant (it is not) Coal is cleaner than just about any fuel due to the scrubbers we use.

All EV's do is trade where the pollution is released.
Were on the same page as far as CO2 and "pollutant" is concerned.

It's been 15 years since I've been in power generation, BUT from what I recall, it's very nuanced. In coal, the CO2 is fairly consistent relative to how much comes out a pure coal sample. Basically, if you burn x amount of units of potential energy, you get y amounts of CO2, assuming a pure burn.

But, there are massive differences in types of coal. Eastern coal (east of the Mississippi) is laden with sulfur. That coal contains more potential energy than western coal (west of Mississippi), which has less sulfur. As a result, starting in the 90s, many Eastern coal plants began to shut down, or get retrofitted, while western coal plants were built. This gave the image of less pollution.

Scrubbers scrub out the SO2 generated by coal. So they are pretty ineffective at capturing CO2. In fact, when I left power generation, there was no way to stop CO2 emissions that was cost effective. We added low NOx burners, but as the name implies, those burners clean up NOx emissions.

There is carbon capture tech, and I'm not sure it's cost effective these days. But considering how much NG generators we've built in the last 10 years, I suspect there still isn't cost effective carbon capture.

But that's what I recall. Things could have changed.

We have to remember it's all about money.

The EPA doesn't actually give a shit about saving the environment, they care about looking like they are. It's a lot easier to go after the small majority of car enthusiasts who make up a tiny fraction of the pollution than going after the big players.

Private jets are around 10x the pollution of a passenger car depending on factors like how many people are on them and how long they are flying. I don't see them raiding Taylor Swift's place.

Huge industries like food contribute an insane amount of pollution, but instead of targeting the big polluters where they actually might have to come up with clever solutions, it's easier to target a minority of enthusiasts and small companies to get big stories.

The goal should be reducing pollution from the big players while keeping people's personal freedoms and hobbies protected.

They could roll back standards to year 2000 and we would still have very clean air and lot cheaper cars. Energy prices would come down thus reducing prices across the board.

What is going on now is a power grab and a way to justify their existence. No way can the EPA say "our air and water are clean" The budget would get slashed.

But that's what I recall. Things could have changed.
My point about coal is with current tech we capture most real pollutants. Unlike China who basically just burns the coal and lets everything go up the stack.

Again I think carbon capture is a bad idea. Plants need it and the zealots are going to go overboard (humans, it's what we do) and will cause great harm.

EV's are a nightmare if you look at where the raw materials come from and how they are captured.

We need more people who educate themselves instead of listening to the latest headline.
This would solve 80% of the World's problem.

Point is, these kind of agendas and ideologies survive because the average "citizen" has real fear of the tomorrow.
They don't think or evaluate, they just lived immersed in an infinite scroll of "information" which tell them the World is going to end.
We all have to thank the French and German philosophers who invented Post-Modernism.

When the truth is not anymore an universal (and proven) truth but it's a subjective truth you get today's society.

Hopefully the next regime reigns in the EPA, if not outright eliminates it

No more govt agencies, period
Can't agree with this.

I'm not in favor of over regulation, but I'm not in favor of zero regulation either.

Realistic balance and fairness is all I wanna see.

And if you want to say, "grid lock" that is the way the system is designed. Keeps bad ideas from becoming law.

Playing devil's advocate. Should a person be allowed to defeat the emissions on a diesel and get rid of the DEF system and then roll coal on $100K + convertibles? It is pretty common in central Florida. My neighbor had it happen to his M8 convertible and it destroyed the car.

Unless there’s no compromise at all and nothing gets done. Then it’s just a bunch of overpaid morons wasting our tax dollars (which they already are IMO).
