Compare it to earlier Mustangs.

It's pretty good in comparison

Ever drove one with a stock C4?

And we griped about the T5 breaking all the time. And A4LD's puking the front seals. And the 4R70's and AODE's being sluggish.

Can't please nobody.

Downshifting the paddle response is slow but you can account for that by just shifting earlier, upshifting at WOT the shifts are insanely fast, ford actually bragged that they are faster than PDK upshifts at WOT. I paddle shift 99% of the time.

Well, unless your 10R80 is better than mine for some reason, the transmission is garbage. It is by FAR the worst part about this car. I hate everything about it.
I had a defective 10r80 that was horribly clunky and jerky from the start. After years of dealers doing tech ride alongs, replacing fluid, replacing valve body - ford finally had the transmission replaced under warranty and it’s shifting much much better than before.

Not perfectly smooth and silky like the ZF8, but holy smokes what a night and day difference to the new one.

I have a wengerd tune sitting around, and I’ll get that started in July to see how and where it improves the 10r80.

Sounds like you have a defective unit, not sure if you've attempted to get it sorted out or not with Ford. While it's not the smoothest transmissions out there, it's far from "garbage" so something must be terribly wrong with yours.

I have to believe ford purposely left a large amount of room between the clutches and steels to reduce drag as much as possible. Tolerancing stack-up within parts plays into how these transmissions act. Some are looser than others affecting apply piston fill rates quite a bit making those units more clunky and slower on downshifts but actually wasting less energy than one that shifts rather well and isn't clunky from tighter tolerances within the clutches. I know most PCM's are made to account for those differences but I think ford's strategy is lackluster seeing as how GM's 10L80 doesn't seem to have these same problems.

They do. It's the MT-82.
What is the saying?? Real men drive manuals and save the autos for the women? I’m a firm believer that if you own a sports car you get a manual.

Yikes - Sexist and ignorant

It's telling that the only people who care or are constantly obsessed about what transmission you drive are the manual folks. Auto/DCT users don't really think about manual users and just enjoy their autos.

Funny how you talk about real men or being manly, yet you have a friggin' minivan in your signature. What's that saying about a pot and a kettle :giggle:
Hey, I have a mustang and a minivan. What’s wrong with that? I have kids, don’t you need a bigger vehicle in order to go place? Your argument that minivans just shows that you’re a punk a** kid with no responsibility. Man that was a dumb thing to say.

I got kids, and no minivan and I handle it just fine. They love sitting in the backseat of the Mustang.

If there's nothing wrong with having a minivan because they are practical, then what's wrong with having an auto muscle car?

No there’s nothing wrong with an auto. I’m from the time when driving a sports car you got a manual.

And in that time, if you had kids you got a station wagon and you stuck them facing the rear in the trunk. But technology has improved and we have nice useful minivans. You're a smart guy and went with what's practical today instead of delving in the past. Why delve in the past for transmissions but not vehicles?

Yes you’re right, but I’m not the one who came up with that saying. That’s just the saying that goes around. I don’t get why people get offended by it. I’m pretty sure everyone here has already heard that statement.

Oh, you’re a big tough guy hiding behind a keyboard. I’d love to see you in person so you can say it to my face.
But I go to a lot of car meets and everyone has the same opinion as me. Except the guys that don’t know how to drive a manual. Those are the only ones to get upset. It takes skill to use a manual. A computer doesn’t do our driving.
Make stupid comments get stupid responses.
I’ve drivin more stick shift cars, crochrockets and Harley’s than I can count in my life.
Just didn’t want a stick this time.
that’s why they make them dude.. choice.
You sound like some bucket head that can’t think outside the box.
