Actually I wonder and probably will only ever wonder but the gt350 might feel sluggish in the lower RPMs. From what it looks like and have heard the torque is lower then the GT below 3000. I think its safe to say I will probably never get to feel the difference though.
The first ecoboost brand new one that I test drove I thought was a bit sluggish also. I then bought this used one. I wonder if the new one didn't have 93 octane and my used one did. These ecoboost unfortunately are very octane dependent for performance.
Don't sell yourself short...

You could always try and get a test drive at the dealership :D

Yep, I filled up my F150 ecoboost with Plus, then went back to Regular, and I definitely noticed the difference when going back to Regular feels sluggish.

The one at my dealer has a not attached to the windshield "Do not ask to take this for a test drive, this will be sold with no miles added to it from the dealership"

The GT350 does not have less torque. It has taller gearing.

I've never driven another S550 other then my base manual gt/pp, but now I'm curious to drive a base gt auto with 3.31's to feel the difference.

Any videos of a 3.31 gt racing a gt/pp...???

Found one....doesn't seem like much of a difference to me

Wow that was interesting

Kinda deflates the 3.73 is faster than the 3.31 issue :headbang:

Both of those are Manual Stick shifts BTW

Seems all new cars feel slow until you get a few 1000 miles on them.

i have to disagree. seems to me this only shows what a driver mod can do as that silver gt seemed to struggle a bit on his shifts imo

I also look for all these type of comparisions. Like most comparisions everything is always WOT. WOT is also the best way to have a somewhat controlled test but for me there is a lot I would like to know and feel about short shifting and coming out of a turn and such. Flat out the gearing might not make a big difference when getting the maximum HP from WOT. I'm thinking and hoping the gearing will help with the everyday and spirited driving more then flat out. One of my biggest concerns over my years of road course racing was to never want to wait for the power coming out of a turn or accelerating up a hill. Even if I ran out of gearing on the straightaway lap times were faster with quick acceleration vs pure top speed.

The PP has quite a significant increase in torque to the wheels via gearing over the auto you drove, in addition to no converter slip or change of mind confusion in the calibration. It is a very quick accelerating car, particularly from 20 mph on up.

3.31 vs 3.73 race was pretty close. Lot of variables introduced into that test. Starting at 40mph removed some of the 3.73 advantage.

Lower gearing should accelerate faster.

Although matching gearing to the course or event may overcome the overall faster acceleration. Number of gear changes in the quarter mile and corner speed on road course or autocross might dictate a higher gearing.

You drove a base GT with automatic. None of that brings out the 'fun' the car has.

The Performance Pack with a manual is the purest way to drive the car.
i agree its the purest way to go slower in the 1/4 mile!

In the end the final drive ratio (combination of trans gears + rear end gears) is what makes the difference.

I drove the 3.55 and felt it was better mated to the Getrag trani, the 3.73 seemed a little low to me, but wanted the performance package and probably would have went with the Torsen for road racing, anyway.

If I was more of a straight line guy I would have stayed away from the Torsen, because in straight line the 3.73 does have a slight disadvantage, if it is a Torsen.

If I ever have to replace the MT82 I would like to test drive a Tremec because those gear ratios seem better suited to the 3.73 gears.

As far as the video, IMO it shows two people driving down the street, nothing more.
