I like rowing gears and I like the exhaust sound a manual makes when you romp on it, clutch in, new gear, clutch out, romp on it again.

Automatic is one monotone boring sound
It's called touching the paddles on the steering wheel ...same sounds. The rev matching on down shifts create some exciting sounds. How many people who have the manual can heel/toe like the auto trans does. The C7 manual had the rev matching option and was cool. The Mustang does not have that option. I never was very good @ heel/toe so the auto is perfect for me. To me the auto gives you a choice of manual or auto. Ok it's no Porsche auto trans but close.
In the past 30 years I would NEVER own an auto in a sports type car, not anymore.
The new Ford GT only comes with an auto. Debate that !

Here are some hard numbers.
http://www.edmunds.com/ford/mustang...g-gt-performance-package-worth-the-money.html
If that is accurate then the braking difference is quite substantial. Has anyone priced out what it would cost to buy the PP brakes and put them on an auto?
And despite the all season tires the auto is of course faster. DO you want more brakes or easier acceleration? Depends on your own needs I guess.

My biggest problem with the 3.73 gear is that you are in 3rd gear by 60mph.. compare that to a corvette where you haven't even left first yet. That seems the most inconvenient thing for daily driving.

Fully agree! Years of heel/toe and gear mashing was a blast. Those who rode with me said I drive like an animal (putting it nicely). Not that those days are totally over, but c'mon, in reality are we/should we be driving like we're in competion with every other car on the road? Are we going to test at every light whether the stick or auto is a 1/10 of a sec faster?
I remember the days of home stereo buying and trying to decide if 0.008% THD is worth the extra $100 over the 0.009% THD. You can look at graphs and charts and stats and its all just numbers on paper. The reality is, bigger and more is not always better. I didn't want the 3.73 rear end, so no PP for me, regardless of the fact I got an AT.

Brakes are the biggest thing. A big brake package alone will cost you the cost of the performance package, so it's a no brainer for me. The appearance of the brakes us a big part of it for me.

I guess a little doubt would be in place no matter which choice I would have made. I had to weigh the pros and cons of with and without the PP. My only doubt without was the brakes, but with the PP I didn't want 3.73's, ugly wheels and the torsen differential. Deciding on the 401A instead of the PP was a decision that took about a week to make.

I agree the pp wheels on certain colors are just plain ugly. The black wheels are just not made to go on certain color cars. Ruby red which I have looks horrible with black wheels IMO.

No doubt PP brakes are better and worth the pack price, assuming you're going to use them in a manner that it actually make a difference over regular ones. 99% will not, but if out makes them feel better they have Brembos, cool with me. Will probably make me feel better too :)

I got an email from American Muscle showing a sale for the complete Brembo set. $1899

Has anyone mentioned seats? Doesn't the PP come with Recaro seats? The six piston Brembos and the Recaro seats make it worth it, even though I opted out of it. The only thing I don't care for is the 3.73 gear.
Recaros are a separate option. You can have them on a base GT (in cloth) or a Premium GT (in black leather) or with the PCAG interior (with contrast-color stitching).

Not a performance pack exclusive.

I'm a little stuck.

I wanted to get a 2015 GT premum with PP but I've never been big on manuals. I get the arguments for why they're great -- but when you're in the heart of Los Angeles, and prefer the efficiency the auto provides, it's a harder sell. I'm really confused why Ford offers the PP with the ecoboost auto but not the GT auto.

Not getting the brakes upgrade feels like the main hit. Not sure if the enhanced structural support and the larger radiator matter in the long-term.

For you guys with more experience, what do I miss out not having the performance package? Should I stop worrying and just enjoy stock or upgrade bit by bit with after market parts over time?
If you are this concerned, then I would recommend that you test drive both to determine if you prefer the firmer ride of the PP. That alone sold me. But if a standard doesn't work for your circumstances, then you have your answer.

Several above have noted the 4-piston brakes are really good. I agree. They were the GT500 brakes in 2010, right?

I think the value of the Brembos is theoretical for a lot of us. They won't make much if any difference on the first hard stop, and the base GT brakes will do fine for most if not all street driving, however enthusiastic. The Brembos kill on the track.

So like so many things, the Brembos are "worth it" in that you are getting a lot of expensive hardware for a decent price with the PP, but your "need" for them may vary. For myself, there has not been a moment in 9800 miles where I thought I needed more front brake. My only impression is how strong the 4-piston system is. (And, at times, how freaking much noise it makes, but that's a different thread and parts are on order, LOL.)

I don't think its worth it. The few things I liked about the pack(sway bar, springs, strut brace) I can get and put on myself. Plus then I can pick and choose different brands.

Autos are fastah :headbang:   :clap2:
I wish Ford had a DCT like the E92 M3's have. I would've checked that $3,000 option box so fast, it would've been quicker than a DCT shift:lol:

Performace Pack Diff

I'm pretty sure you don't get any of the "Track Apps" options until you get up to the GT performance pack.
Things like:

Acceleration Timer
0-30MPH
0-60MPH
0-100MPH
0-1/8Mile
0-1/4Mile
Brake Performance
60-0MPH
100-0MPH
Line Lock
Launch Control

None of this means anything to someone just driving their Mustang to work and back, but if you join your local SCCA like I did and have opportunities to get your S550 on the track, you will appreciate them.
Pushed her to 147 MPH last weekend - Legally!!!
