This is not entirely true. I have had my last two cars that had drive modes and were manuals and the modes do make a difference.
I didn't say they don't make a difference on manual cars. I also had a manual with the drive modes. I just said that they make a huge difference in how the A10 behaves. Since the OP doesn't have an A10, that doesn't apply to him.

As others said, the throttle response is the biggest issue.

I specifically didn't buy a base model because of it (among other things like the interior).

The base model throttle is very progressive. Sport+ and all other modes are linear and way more responsive.

You could fix that with a tune though.

Are there threads discussing how important the drive modes are for the 10spd auto? I'm trying to decide what I'll be giving up if I buy a base gt w auto. Thanks for any help. I've been reading, trying to learn all i can before the purchase.

Get a base A-10 301a package for 2k more and you don't give up anything performance wise.

Those of us that have the toggles are sworn to secrecy pertaining to the special mode. :lipssealed:

Both manual cars and autos are affected by the drive modes.

The steering and throttle response change in both cars.

Transmission shifts change on the autos.

l have my 2019 GT for three weeks now and so far the car is awesome. My car is a base GT 6mt with pp1. I’m 62 retired l have no plans on racing this car. What I would like to know is what I’m missing by not having drag mode, track mode, etc.
I want to thank everyone for all the excellent information, I learn so much here. Cars are so different now. I’ve owned a “82” 280-ZX Turbo, “86” RX7, “04”G35 Coupe all relatively quick cars but nothing close to the Mustang this car is definitely fast enough for me. I did a few small mods , Stow&Show front plate bracket, JLT catch can, Ford Performance hood struts, and door sills, K&N air filter, plus a bunch of stuff from Chemical Guys the car is black and definitely in need of paint correction. I should have never let the dealer wash this car! I’m sure I can get it back to pristine. Again I thank you guys for the info

Can you place the gear selector into S , and get the same transmission changes as you would by using the toggle switches? I'm coming from a long line of manual transmission sports cars. I am unfamiliar with how these new autos work.

I'm about 90% sure you can just add the switches and then add the modes in forescan. All these ECU's are the same, you just need to activate the functions.

No. The Sport selection on the shifter does not duplicate what you can do with the toggles. If you are into straight line acceleration, you will be amazed at how the car reacts in "dragstrip" mode. While I rarely use it, "track" mode is also incredible if you are feeling playful in the twisties or on a road course. I don't drive my car in the snow but I suspect the "snow/wet" mode is helpful in avoiding wheelspin.
