March 2016 Mustang Sales

The camaro has been doomed since 2010. You can't sell half of what your major competition does and expect to survive long. What's funny is they thought it would sell so well that dealer lots are FULL of them and sticker price on nearly all of the SS models are 45-50k. Why would anybody pay that much for that car?

So the reasons in order are
1. The mustang is the newer model so of course it's selling better
2. Production wasn't in full swing.
3. General lack of availability
4. Lack of the Turbo model.
5. Cold weather
6. The mustang has been out longer (which contradicts what they said about the 5th gen)

I agree wholeheartedly. I've been tired of the retro thing for a while yet. I like both cars, but the Mustang definitely speaks to a younger audience.

So those guys pretend that GM wouldn't sell to a fleet? Fleet sales are still sales, The fleet manager decides he can rent out Mustangs easier than Camaros because

Objectively
1) It has more interior room.
2) Has better Visibility
3) Costs less

And Subjectively
1)In my own experience, most people I met think the Mustang looks better (Which severely annoys my friend with his Camaro whenever we ask anybody)
2)Ironically in 1LT models, the Interior is far more rental spec than in a base 'stang.

I love the 'It will be more exclusive' argument, it's why the Camaro was so exclusive from 03-09.

The problem is that the Camaro team listened to their "Camaro disciples" in designing the 6th Gen. The "Camaro disciples" were mostly fanatic Gen 5 owners who loved the Gen 5 totally and completely. So what happened is their views were influenced by the 5th Gen.

They wanted the same looks, with more power and less weight with better fuel economy. They got exactly that in the 6th Gen. As a result people who weren't attracted to the looks/lines of the 5th Gen wouldn't be drawn to the 6th Gen either. They're looking for people who will want the next, latest and greatest Camaro (who currently own a 5th Gen) who will either trade in with a loss on a 6th Gen or jump in neck deep with payments to GM.

The Camaro was designed to appeal to an American market that GM thought would gobble up a Generation 5 Camaro redux . Take 6 parts Gen 5, 3 parts Stingray, 1 part ATS, mix and bake for 3 years at 400 degrees and out pops a Gen 6 Camaro.

The Mustang was designed for a global market with global influences, with something that would appeal from the Asiatic market, to the European market, Aussie sales and good ol' American appeal...and they hit a home run of historic proportions.

Pretty much. One person on Camaro6 said that their prophet Al O (praise be unto him) "wasn't sure the Mustang would do another overseas sales run"...yeah about that, you moron.

If I was superstitious, I'd say the Alpha platform is cursed. Every car based on it is praised by the automotive press, but it's never translated into sales. I really thought by now the gap would have started closing between the Camaro and Mustang. It really is starting to look like a flashback to the 4th gen.

GM still hasn't learned any lessons from the past. You need more than performance to sell cars at this price point. The base cars are the big sellers, and if everything about the car is compromised except the performance of the halo cars, it's doomed to fail. It's too expensive compared to the competition, too compromised ergonomically, and too similar to the 5th gen. It's a recipe for disaster.

Autotraders pulls up 5 Camaro SS models in manual trans within 50 miles of me. I live in a major northern city. I asked a dealer that I bought a car from previously and was told they have no idea when they'll have more in stock.
