Am I looking at a dent here Inside of the red circle? I’ll bet if you went out to check on it and the rear bumper is still off, you might be able to tell for sure. Stuff like that makes me worry about whether the bodyshop man has a mentality of, “Ahh, he’ll never see it, so it’s good nuff” it’s sad, but that’s the world we live in today. Don’t get me wrong, there are still good and honest workers out there, but there seem to be more lazy arses that ever too. Those are the workers I’m talking about. Don’t dare mess with their pay though, or you’ll see em come unglued.

Correct; that's where the bulk of the hit went. About bumper level for the truck. I'll see if it can be checked, for sure. Though the shop it's in doesn't seem that kind of place... yeah, you never know.

That's an easy replacement. Your car went through this - look at all that's cut off and replaced. That's not "frame" damage.

Good to know. Pretty wild to see though, lol.

If that's all that happened then sweet. I'll see about having a look, or at least an outline when taking pickup to have what was damaged on hand and run it by one of the shops mentioned here while doing the DV estimate drivel to make sure everything's where it should be. Fingers crossed the "frame damage" is just that trunk cap and the rear quarter.

If that's the case, I have four months worth of stashed away mod money burning a hole in my savings... 😁

If repaired right, there will be zero difference in structural integrity/squareness vs factory. + you get some brand new parts.

Keep it. I had a similar event with my 335. After a LONG time in the shop, it came back driving as good as new.

The day it happened:

8 weeks later:

Good to hear on your 335. I wish mine were only 8 weeks but, alas.

I'll keep positive and call it fortunate still, though. Poor friend of mine had a tree fall on her '15. It was in the shop a little longer than mine has been, but needed just about every topside body panel and glass replaced and repainted.

She said it felt weird, like it wasn't her car when she picked it back up... I guess that's where the feeling of even a correctly repaired car not driving right sprouts from. And something to prepare for. It'll probably be a hitchy drive back into Atlanta, after four months cooped up in an auto Focus.

Here's hoping. I'll report back once I take pickup and have it back underfoot.

Dunno how your insurance works, but with mine I can bring it to any accredited body shop. So when I had my windshield replaced & hood / fenders / front bumper cover repainted, I brought it to a high end shop that specializes in exotics/supercars. Now I have paint that's 100x better than the rest of the car. High gloss, zero orange peel Haha.

...no, I would not keep it.
No matter how slight or light, I'd get rid of it.
But that's just me.....................................:sunglasses:

Update: Car back!

Some minor inconveniences. Chief among them being panel gap on the trunk. I had a set of hood and trunk struts on order before this all went sideways, so, it'll need to be adjusted anyway. There was no detailing done before I picked it up but, frankly, I can't say I'm too bothered by that anyway. Gives me something to do over the week, now that the weather's nice out again.

Regarding damages: I wasn't able to get it up on lift, but reviewing paperwork, it seems to have just been the quarter and the trunk cap. I'm still going to err on the side of caution and have it lifted and get the rails checked out as well, just to be safe.

But, looks like we've overcome the head games, at least. Now to get to throwing parts at it.

(Don't mind the messy background—two S550's make a lot of used oil!)

I second the lawyer - I had an accident years ago with a similar repair cost. The insurance for the other driver refused to cough up DV until I hired a lawyer. One letter on legal letterhead and the DV was paid.

Update: Well, now I'll need to swing by a dealership for an appraisal as well, anyway. Apparently State Farm (MY insurance) calculated no diminished value (???) so, I'm going to have it appraised and see what its price is, what the dealer would've paid if it did not have a black mark on its record, and what market value is for similar Mustangs. So, we didn't even make it to proposing DV to the at-fault's insurance before running into issue. Lovely.

Who knows. I'm about 1/3 paid down as-is, and still have plenty of funds put away. If it comes back to be more than the payoff I might just cut my losses and see about letting it go and trading then and there. The dealer I'll be heading to does have a nice, pretty well-optioned '21 GT Premium on lot that I'm sure they'll want gone before too long.

I know lawyer up has come up twice now but—frankly, I've had enough stress and frustration from this process thus far, and I've no desire for more. I just want(ed) my damn car back.

To end on a positive note, had a nice smile on the way home from work today. If the dude in the white Mustang going up I-85 is on here—thanks for the grins. :like:

A trade in estimate from a dealer is unfortunately not going to get you anywhere with a diminished value claim. You will need to go to a certified appraiser to document your loss.

They told me dealer was alright, unless I talked to some dumb State Farm agent. What would I need to search for to find a "certified appraiser"?
