Vibration between 50 & 70 mph

You'll usually get it at a couple of different speeds- for me it is terrible at 60, good at 70 and comes back at 75+ where you hear it as much as you feel it. Start at 50 and go up in 5mph increments with the radio off and listen and feel at each speed. I have 3.15 gears, all stock. They should get the new pinion flange installed this week so I'll know if that really is the issue with my car. 2 new DS, indexing and balancing have done nothing to fix it so far and everything is in spec...

My car is silky smooth up to 77-80 mph. From there to about 90 it's a floorboard vibration that would send coins dancing, then back to being smooth on up to triple digits (professional driver on closed course, do not attempt).

I noticed this on mine early on but didn't think nothing of it now when I go from park to reverse I get a slight clunk I am sure its driveshaft related going to take it into the dealership for a oil change and have them check that out also.

Well shit, add me to the list. My vibration is between 77-90mph but I have 3.31 gears, so that would make sense if the vibration is on the shaft or pinion. I have an appointment this Friday to drop the car off.

I just voted Yes to my GT automatic with slight vibration at 50-80mph. Does not change on different highways, so it can't be the road surface.

Noticed this quite early with the car, which is now at 1200 miles.

Hmm. What we could do is fix an accelerometer to the chassis, and then find out the frequency of the vibration. Then determine if that frequency correlates to the DS rpm. I have the accelerometer and preamp, but no laptop software program on which to run it.

Re balanced the tires, and said he thinks the vibration was from the exhaust; I say BS, but I'm a bit stuck now. I need to bring it to a new dealer I guess; my vibration is minor but feels a bit off.

The Ford reps have that equipment. They used it on my car. They know it is the DS or something related that spins at that rpm. It will be slightly different speeds depending on the rear axle ratio and if it is a balance problem or a run out problem. The issue is that they don't know how to fix it or at least they can't fix it easily. I've had 2 DS installed and the vibration changed with each of them but it didn't go away.

If yours is minor and hard to feel, I'd leave it alone. They are just as likely to make it worse as better if they start swapping DS- which is what they will do.

I just found this thread. Without reading 35 pages in this thread - and given the conclusion it is the DS - then what was the answer to questions about going with aftermarket DS? Does that fix the problem, albeit not for free?

It has for some, but there are not not enough data points to draw a conclusion. It may be more than DS since my car has had 3 and is basically unchanged. One guy had his fixed when they replaced the pinion flange. That is what they are trying next on my car. After that, it is buy back time. I don't have time to solve Ford's engineering problems...

Vibration Update

So went to the Dealer didn't take long for them to start looking towards the drive train. The Tech didn't quite think the DS was the issue and contacted Ford , they in turn decided to try and new DS first. So far I'm glad they took the issue seriously and didn't try to blame tires , say that's normal or defer the issue. DS is on order...

Dealer called this morning and said the new pinion flange is in and that they want to install it wed morning when the Ford rep will be there. This is a good sign that Ford is really trying to solve this problem. I suspect the dealers are starting to put pressure on Ford as well since they have cars on the lot that they know are going to have problems. My dealer has 2 new Mustangs with the problem and that puts them in a corner where they have to decide if they want to not sell a car until it is fixed or sell it and deal with an unhappy customer afterward.

My replacement vehicle (2016 GT) has the vibration issue 50MPH+ as well. I test drove the car yesterday, but wasn't able to go over 45MPH+ due to traffic. I drove it today for 15+ min on the highway (60-70MPH) and it's almost as bad as my old 2015 EB. The difference is that my old 2015 EB vibrated while accelerating and cruising over 50MPH (pedals, floor, shifter, handbreak, steering wheel), the GT only vibrates while cruising over 50MPH (steering wheel, pedals, floor).

I'm going to go ahead and buy some lotto tickets.

Did you already take delivery of the car? I'd take it right back and tell them to cancel the paperwork.
I think Ford has a way bigger problem than they want to admit with the Mustang. This isn't just a small run of bad driveshafts. This is probably a design problem.
