No. It is a multi-prong process.

Legally: you agreed to this practice when you did any of these:

1. Created a user account on a Ford website via your mobile or any computer
2. Agreed to receive thousands of bonus points when you bought a new car
3. Installed and launched FordPass on your mobile
4. Left the Sync infotainment in its default settings to collect and share data

Physically:

1. The FordPass app snitches on you
2. The Car snitches on you via the TCU modem

Wether the Car snitches on you when you connect it to a WiFi network has not been confirmed yet. My own car is recent and I do not need to update its Sync firmware via WiFi yet, but when I get tempted in a few years, I’ll reset my WiFi network after that or I’ll use the USB method.

use the USB method

This works really well. I’ve done an update via USB, it’s super easy. Download to the USB via computer, plug in the USB to your car, drive around for 10-15 minutes while the update installs and you’re done. The car needs to be on for the update to install and I didn’t want to idle in my driveway but that’s an option as well.

Well, maybe. If the signal is strong enough, it might be possible for the modem to communicate. Think of it like taking the antenna off a radio, if the signal is strong enough you could still transmit and receive.

So I don't think removing the antenna coax will absolutely kill comms.

I would pull the fuse and/or pull the data/power harness from the modem.

One for the sat, other for the 4g.

Does it do SAT? I think SAT radio and SAT nav are split to the APU from the sharkfin. I would guess the modem is either dual band or MIMO 4G.

There are two coax coming out of the Shark fin. One is for 4g data and the other is sat (nav and sat radio). I'd did a seperate thread on the function of the shark fin antenna detailing each coax.

As for the modem, I'll have a look tomorrow.

At this point it doesn't matter. Unplug the coax and data/power harness from the modem.

I'm no radio geek, Tom, but I don't see how that could happen with the data input side disconnected.

That will certainly do it but why go to the trouble of disassembly if pulling the fuse accomplishes the same thing? With the breaker tripped, I have no sat nav or gps and FP is clueless.

A radio without an antenna still technically transmits a signal albeit a very small one. In this case you'd have to park your car inside the electronics hut if the cell tower to be received.

Pulling the 5A telematics fuse only disables the data transmission, there is no effect on sat radio or nav. Those are different receivers that may share the same antenna proximity in the roof lump.

It was my understanding that the person couldn't get the data/power harness disconnected and only disconnected the antenna coaxial leads from the modem in the trunk.

So, like I said, two coax cables coming out of the shark fin antenna. One goes to the modem and the other to the satellite radio/nav.

The modem in the trunk has 3 connectors, one is the sharkfin 4g antenna, the other is the parcel shelf antenna, and the power/data harness.

In my neighborhood I hope they are monitoring those hooligans---now get off my lawn!!

Any car connected is collecting data and transmitting back to Ford for who knows what.

If you want to be oblivious, please do so. However your slant on the subject matter is not appreciated commensurate with the subject matter and people who share concerns.

I didn't look, but do you own a GT500 or a 350? Who wants that kind of data collected?
