The 2020 HPP intercooler has the same part number as the earlier models. I had read some reviews that said the intercooler was upgraded but that didn't happen.

Awesome, thanks for this info. So the intercooler on the HPP was not upgraded from the base Ecoboost? I was planning to upgrade the intercooler on mine anyways but I thought it was at least better. Good to hear about the bumper removal.
It is technically upgraded. It uses the focus RS intercooler which is bigger but aftermarket ones are still bigger and better

Maybe but the part number is the same for 2015 through 2019 Ecoboost Mustangs.
This is the intercooler out of my 2020 HPP.

The confusion is probably from some press releases in April 2019 about the 2020 Ecoboost HPP.
From Tech Times and Motor Trend;

Tech Times
16 April 2019

"Just like the Focus RS, the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is built at the Valencia, Spain factory. There are also changes in the piping and intercooler design because of the new engine arrangement."

Motor Trend
April 15, 2019

"The transition from transverse to longitudinal mounting wasn't that big a deal—the turbo had to be redesigned to meet the very different exhaust plumbing, the intercooler is unique"

I don't think there is a new engine arrangement in the 2020 HPP, it is about fitting the 2.3 in all the Mustangs not just the 2020 HPP.

I could not find any info from Ford about upgrading the 2020 HPP intercooler.
Anyway it would be hard to believe they made one any smaller than what I took out.

That is garbage if its the little slim OEM intercooler. I bet a nice FMIC will be a nice increase on the HIPO cars

But think about all that weight saved by using the little stock IC.

Lol in a way this makes me laugh, I had my eco on the lift, in air, I pulled out the stock IC through the belly pan (I did entire install through belly pan) my friend was trying to get the CPE FMIC in position, and he dropped it! I CAUGHT IT MID AiR like 6 inches from the ground. it was hefty little mid air grab too.

I was lucky, my car did not have the active grille shutters from factory. 40 minute total install time.

Lucky you caught it.
I was using jack stands without any help. If I had dropped it I would have caught it with my face.
If I had the car on a lift I probably could have installed the new ic by myself without removing the bumper cover but it only took a few minutes to remove the cover.

40 minutes total? That’s much faster than I thought it would take. I’ve been putting it off, but I really want to upgrade the IC. Daily temps in the 90’s and high humidity really impact the EcoBoost.

I'm glad I changed out my IC.
Not hard to do and really lowered temps.
I think I'll try to find an intercooler for my 100 degree + garage and see if it will lower the garage temps.

Yeah I did mine on the ground ramps, laying on my back, in about 1hr in 50km/h winds. Best $320 AUD delivered I ever spent

What kind of temps are you guys seeing with your aftermarket IC's in the Summer? With my MAPerformance intercooler I'm seeing about 20 degrees above ambient on average.
With 90 degree plus weather here in South Florida my charge temps hover around 110 degrees.

i did my first "track" day and on the third session my manifold temp was in the 150+. i did have the A/C on the first two sessions and my airbox temp was 99 during the third session. there was 40 minutes between sessions to cool down which i had the hood open and used a leafblower. i did revert back to the base map. is this temp because of the relatively slow speed of the track and hot air getting trapped in the engine bay? my AP did show a peek inferred temp of 1700 for the cat.
