Get rid of the spin on filter if you can. Those were the ones that liked to back themselves off the motor while driving.
True, if not tightened appropriately. I have not had any issues with my 2016 (owned for 6 years, almost to the day) oil filter backing off when torquing it down. And the filters are currently widely available..... :)

I've had mine for over 6 years and have done 15 oil changes on it. All with the spin on filter, all torqued down properly. Tracked my car heavily and taken it on plenty of long drives. 24k miles and not a single issue of backing off. The ones that backed off were hand tightened by inexperienced people changing the oil and not noticing the torque figures that are clearly printed on every single oil filter.

LOL, easy shooter. I made a suggestion to OP since he was taking his car in to have his oil changed to consider getting the modified version that didn't have the issue, so that an inexperienced tech wouldn't undertighten it and result in catastrophic failure.

Although, doesn't matter which style you have they all have to be torqued properly so under tightening can happen with either type and being certain to mention it to any tech experienced or not is a good idea.

Iā€™ve never had this issueā€¦however Iā€™ve changed my own oil every time. If having it done somewhere, I would add a friendly reminder of the torque spec sticker on the oil filter itselfā€¦
On another note, havenā€™t experienced a filter shortage lol!

I have a 2017 with a spin on filter. I am the only one that has done oil changes on it. The filter is torqued to the specified level and the filter is marked at the 6 oā€™clock position on the top so I can view it through the front driverā€™s wheel. Iā€™ve never had my filter move a millimeter after 18,500 miles.

I assume from your post that you have not previously changed your own oil and that the service center you went to is not a Ford dealership. If that is the case, make double sure when they put on the new filter that they torque it to spec, not just hand tighten, which they may not know to do without your specific instruction. Always important but especially with the older spin on filters.
It's worth noting the torque spec is literally printed on top of the filter, they'd have to ignore that not to do it. I would double check that it's been torqued though since these have been known to come loose once or twice.

And many are jealous of that! I've had some on order since my last change, but I have several squirreled away because of the shortage. That somehow Ford still hasn't figured out.

Not looking to open a long discussion on alternatives to the FL-2069-STā€¦.
However, I was changing the oil in my wifeā€™s Nautilus, and noticed the oil filter looked very familiar. In fact, except for the cobra sticker on the end, it appears identical:

Since only 2016 and some 2017 models use this filter, they may eventually go out of existence. Maybe the FL-910S is an alternative.
No, I didnā€™t cut one open and Iā€™m not ready to try one. But for cruisers or daily drivers, something to consider down the line.

Huh, now that's interesting. Thanks for posting your find.

There has to be something different internally - either with the actual pleating or pleat count or something with the drain back valve (or whatever it's called).

Are the threads the same too?
