My recently purchased 2018 GT Convertible is on its original battery. I've had the car for about 2 months now, and have had no battery problems. This week, I let my 20-year-old son take my car to work each day. This morning I get in to drive it, and it didn't have enough power to start, but had some juice... My son say's he didn't notice anything unusual. Anyone have such a sudden experience? How long do batteries last in these cars?

This always turns into a huge "my battery lasts longer than yours" debate, but I consider average life to be 3 years if all-seasons driving. Sure, there are batteries that last ten, especially if left on a trickle charger, but they're so darn cheap it's good insurance to just pop a new one in every few summers.

I agree. Some batteries last a year or 2, most last 3-4 years, and some people get lucky and have a battery last 7-10 years. A trickle charger would definitely help, so would a hotter year-round climate.

My 2013 F150 had it's original at 5.5 years when I traded for the Mustang. I have seen batteries last 10 years, or go bad in 18 months. No rhyme or re4ason why. Maybe he had the accessory on to listen to the stereo?

Honestly, one loose cell inside can be enough to cause a hard or no start situation, or affect accessory usage like radio or lights. A good hard bump or two can cause the strongest of batteries to loosen up internally.

I have a Jan 2018 (production date) GT and the exact thing happened to me 2 days ago. My battery was fine although the voltmeter was showing 12V and then one day I went to a friend's house and we were sitting in my car for 20 minutes listening to music with the switch on Accessories and doors open and afterwards the car didn't start. We got a new battery and afterwards the Voltmeter showed 14V. So I guess 3 and half years was good for my battery life.

If you have a keen ear, normally get a slow start or two. Once I hear the first one I drive to the auto parts store.

It is being negative! Also negative terminal issues/connections and Ford's are synonymous with failure. All of my panther platforms had negative terminal issues at one point or another.

Oh you saw that. I have no idea as I bought this car a week ago, used and I didn't look under the battery cover when I bought it. It was spilling acid liquid.

Son reports it did have a couple slow starts... I have a trickle charger. Will see if it will hold a charge.

OEM battery life is 3 years and 1 minute, they’re on borrowed time after that.

Because my car was sitting due to COVID I did charge it occasionally to top it up. I did check the cells’ specific gravity In the early spring and they were all, more or less equally, near the top of the scale just below “good” but definitely low. This at less than three years. I started driving it at least weekly for 45-60 minutes (it often did not move all week) which seemed to improve things, although I did not re-check the cells (and have no reason to expect a change). I expect that I may have to replace it sometime during the coming winter but for now, in the summer warmth, it seems to be okay

My first one was about 2.5 years, then I got a replacement at Advance Auto and that lasted 2.5 years, I'm expecting this one I just got last month to last about 2.5 years again...pretty consistent at least. I'm in South Florida which plenty of people have said is hard on batteries.
