The Oil Life Monitor (OLM) considers a variety of factors (how often driven, how long each drive, temperature, when last changed, etc.)

The OLM will countdown 1.9% weekly, to ensure the oil is changed once a year no matter what.

At one extreme, tracking the car will decrease the OLM count quickly. At the other, storing the car will slowly count the timer down over the course of one year. Driving the car weekends and Holidays will bring the rate to something in-between.

If you reset the OLM at the last oil change, it's probably correct. When was it last changed? Was the OLM reset then?

Oil life reminder varies with driving style, eng temps, high rpm use, flex fuel... Nothing wrong with 6k for an oil change.

Ah, of course, oil life remaining, not oil life used, my bad, my mistake. Your car is looking at a 3000 mile oil change, not 6.

If you dont drive often, it may be going by calendar instead of miles.

How long since your last oil change? Months? Years?

I think a variety of opinions regarding Blackstone Labs have been expressed on the forums, but I used them for the first couple of oil changes to see how long I could safely go with 10 quarts of full-synthetic oil. I didn't want to be draining oil that still had substantial useful life.

Given the cost of an oil change, an oil analysis for (now) $35 plus and extra $10 for the additional analysis to see how much active additives remain seemed like money well-spent to me. The report addresses wear metals in the sample as well as how much longer your oil would have been good for., among numerous things. They even send you free mailing containers to ship your sample to them.
