My OEM battery just died at 29.9k miles. I’m considering replacing it with an EFB or AGM battery. Good idea or overkill? I live in the San Francisco Bay area so no weather extremes. Also looking for brand recommendations. Or should I just go with the delear’s motorcraft brand? Thanks for any suggestions!

Oh, AGM all the way. They have the best deep cycle characteristics of all lead acid battery types. As far as brand, go with one that gives the best warranty in your area. Brand does not matter much since years ago the EPA forced US manufactures down to one source for the lead used (lead being a hazardous material) and that company is Exide. So one can say that all batteries are made by them and it comes down to how a distributor/retailer specs them out, i.e. thickness of the lead plates and thickness of the plastic case. Those are the determining factors for the length of a battery warranty. I have used batteries from Walmart and got 10 years out of them, so as I said brand don't matter much.

I just threw in a regular NAPA $200 battery and did the BCM reset. Don t overthink it.

My son's GT was built July 2022 and my Mach 1 was built August 2022. Both cars are driven regularly and both batteries "died" this winter. (My electronic dash/lighting was shutting down to conserve energy.) Dealer wanted both cars in their shop for any warranty claim so we ended up dropping $119 each for Costco Exide batteries. Costco's AGM batteries are $179 AGM but 96R is not popular enough to stock and I didn't feel like fiddling with possible fitment or hold down issues with a non-96R model.

Thanks John! The AGM fitment is a concern, that’s one of the reasons I posted my question.

I stated this on another post, the one module that is the root of all evil that Ford has installed is the Telematics module. This little POS communicates to Ford over available WIFI networks. While it does allow system software updates, it also reports your driving habits to Ford. If you have WIFI enabled and not set up to a particular Network, then this module will kill you battery overnight as it keeps trying to connect. I suggest you set it up but disable it and keep it off.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into this concern, is this a separate issue from the from the Ford Pass app on our phones?

The Pass app talks to the Telematics module over WIFI. If you use it and everything is configured and talking then it's less of a concern. However it checks for updates periodically and could keep the module alive while you are asleep and add to the battery drain. Personally I don't use it, big brother watching thing.

The lead tech at my dealership suggested to keep the keys further from the car as the key and car will talk, running down the battery. My '22 GT makes all kinds of noises when parked in the garage with the keys nearby. Or, lock the car. When mine sits, like now with salt on the roads...I put it on a tender.

I replaced mine with an AGM. Lighter and came with a handle for easy removal during maintenance.
FYI. Its not the mileage. I have 35K and the original battery kept dying. It would not hold a charge. I live in Nor-Cal so the weather it not harsh. Turns out, there was major corrosion on the negative terminal. You could not see it visually until removed. That will prevent the battery from charging killing it faster. Ordered a factory replacement negative terminal from dealer to avoid modifying the cable.

Which one did you go with?
I can't seem to find any AMG battery's in 96R except Odyssey.
