When I first saw your video and only the front wheel was showing, I was thinking, "Damn, that sounds exactly like my 350Z" Then you do a drive-by and it was a 350Z! LOL, common "problem" on that car.

Mine was doing it the first week. Sounded like the clutch idler assembly was acting up ( sounds like swishing bolts around in an empty coffee can).Was loudest parked in neutral. Push in the clutch it would go away. Its completely gone now. Wondering if it was something to do with the dual clutch plate assembly breaking in??

Just saw your response and was wondering at what mileage did your car stopped doing the rattle !

Hi folks. Just wondering how the oil consumption is on your cars. I have had my car since the end of april and now have 7500 miles on it. My car has burned through a case of oil since its first oil change at 1200 miles.That is a quart every 525 miles.As i mentioned previously my dealer determined that it needs two valve seals replaced.This was around the end of May. They ordered them June 6 on an emergency " vehicle down" priority and are yet to receive them. I called ford customer service 2 weeks ago and was told they would escalate it to a customer service manager who would call me within 2 business days. So far I have received no such call. This is my first brand new ford vehicle ever so I must say the service so far is very poor.I have a few friends on some facebook owners groups who are also needing to add. oil in the 750-1000 mile range.We have similar " sporty driving" styles ( blip rev matched downshifts and heel toe almost always) but no track driving.

I'm really surprised to hear about oil consumption. So far my car hasn't needed to have oil added and I've never observed the level on the dipstick to drop. I always check it cold. 3000 miles so far and one oil change around 1000 miles. 4 autocross days and one track day thus far.

Mine has been fine so far. I have about 2800 miles, 1 autocross day, 1 track day. My first/only oil change was at 1200 miles before the autocross and track. I just came back from the track day and I added about 1/4 qt of oil just because it looked a little low on the hashes. It was still in the normal range but I wanted to be on the safe side.

How did you guys break your engines? Every high performance v8 I owned had these issues pop up in their forums (E92 M3, F10 M5) and they all had something common, owners babying their cars first 1000 miles. I owned my M3 for 30,000 miles and have 26,000 miles on my M5. Both cars have their oil changed every 7500 miles and for both cars the number of times I had to top off oil is 2 (1 each). Whereas lots of people have to top it off every 750-1000 miles even after 20,000 miles.

I always, always, floor my cars out of the dealer's lot. First 10-20 miles is extremely critical, and I redline at least once per 10 miles in first 100 miles and gradually reduce that to once every 30 and 50 miles towards 1000 mile mark. All my cars had been rock solid and I always redline them at least 2-3 times a day.

It's not abnormal for high performance engines burn a little oil under normal usage due to the pistons are sized to seal perfectly under continuous high stress and heat situation.
As for breaking in everybody have their opinions but for me, no full throttle or above 5000 rpm till 1000 miles. 1000-2000 miles, can use full throttle but no redlining. 3000 miles, change oil and you are free to explore the power.

Redline isn't the issue...cylinder pressure is. Full throttle from moderate RPMs (2500-3000) up to about 6000 in a higher gear (not 1st), then let it engine brake back down to normal driving speed. This helps seat the rings without stressing other components of the engine that need to wear together over time - cams, lifters, rockers, oil pump, etc.

Oh, and I change to conventional oil as soon as I get my car home from the dealer and run it for 1000 miles.

Do you have to do all this? No. But I've broken in my fair share of new engines this way, and I've never had an issue with oil consumption or longevity. If another process works well, then great. This is my process, and it's worked well for me.

Is your thinking that synthetic is too slippery to allow proper break in?

I've been doing 80%-90% throttle pulls in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th gears and then engine braking back to my starting speed. I'll change the oil and filter at 500 miles (probably next weekend) using Motorcraft.

Synthetic oil obviously works on break in, or manufacturers wouldn't send engines out the door with synthetics in them. I do think it prolongs the break in period, however, especially on the "wear parts" that I mentioned.

The break in procedure you described should serve you well.

My car arrived with close to 30 miles on it. It was a very early production 2016 chassis #50 built beginning of Sept. It had some factory driving test miles and was part of a pull back when the plant decided to add heat shielding to some fluid lines. Looks like Ford put some test miles on it and wasn't delivered until December.

After that point I loaded the engine for a few pulls to 6000 rpm in 1st and 2nd. Didn't go above 6000 until 100 miles in. Didn't go above 7000 and didn't track it until after my first oil change a little over 1000 miles. After that I drive it as one should on the road and as one should on a track/autocross.

Using factory recommended oil.

We'll be waiting for your report back when the valve seals are replaced to see if that solved your oil consumption issue. My GT350 now has 6500 miles, 1st oil change at 1100 miles and I cannot detect any measureable oil consumption. I have been getting about 2 ounces of oil collected in the right side catch can every 2500 miles, depending on how often I autocross it, but that is the extent of the oil use. I would consider that "normal" consumption.

mine will use some If I drive a lot of very short trips. The catch can also will catch a bit.

I try not to do much engine loading if any outside of flowing with traffic before it gets to 180 degrees.

I didn't detect too much at first, car used a bit for a while when we went through hot / cold swings but normalized once temps hit summer.
