About to put the gt350 away for the winter and I thought I would ask you guys how your oil consumption has been. I have added 22 quarts in the 12000 miles (1q/545 miles) I have put on since picking up the car in April . Dealer checked it in May and ordered me 2 intake valve seals. After calling and emailing ford a dozen times now, the dealer still has not received the two seals. Ive been told everything from they were lost in shipping twice to they should be there any day..(in July!!). I have been following a few threads on this however I havent seen anyone requiring seal replacement. Wondering also if this is the norm when needing parts as well as this is my first brand new ford product with a warranty.
I'm in a similar situation, but my dealer is trying to get me a new engine.

Everybody has their opinion on how to break in a engine, but you can't baby it
and expect to set your rings
I didn't baby mine and it is still using a quart about every 800 miles. My dealer said the Ford engineer thought it was a ring issue. If/when I get my new engine they are suggesting a 200 mile hard break in with non synthetic break in oil. Then change to the recommended 5W-50 syn. Unfortunately, this is months away from happening so I won't be able to report if it works or not until next spring.

^^I'm curious if they did a leakdown test or borescope before theorizing you have a ring issue?

They did a leakdown test and it barely made it to 900 miles before it was below the lower hole on the stick. This was regular driving also.

I'm not sure about the borescope, but my guess would be they didn't do that.

Did the leakdown test reveal anything abnormal?

They didn't say anything, just confirmed that it was using too much oil. They told me that a quart every 1500 miles was considered normal. So, obviously this is a quite a bit more than that.

Wow, interesting to hear Ford say that is "normal". I'm assuming that info came to the Ford dealership via a Ford engineer, rather than coming from a tech at the dealership?

If you blow smoke during acceleration or revving, it's the rings leaking oil .

If you blow smoke during deceleration (lift completely at high rpm, lower gear) , it's the valve seals.

you can do a compression test, it will tell you the story... they have to be evenly around the same factory value. If it's low, you are blowing by...

If you put a spoon of oil and compression gets better, it's your rings. If you put a spoon of oil and it does not get better, your valves are leaking.... easy :)

The interesting part is people aren't really seeing smoke with the oil consumption. The theory is the cats are catching it.

I've got approximately 2.5k on my oil change with five or so track days. I've added two quarts. I guesstimate my catch can has caught about a third to a half quart of oil in that time.

Mine does not blow smoke. I just got a call from my dealer and Ford denied my engine replacement because they fear the new engine will just do the same thing. They said there should be a fix for it in the spring. Obviously not super pleased about it for a number of reasons.

Yah the run around seems to be SOP at Ford. It really sucks because it is one hell of a car and I don't want anything else. But man it sucks when the toys become headaches.

Keep track of the oil and receipts, I'd be handing them the bill when/if they fix the oil consumption issue.

Good call on the receipts.Ford is reimbursing me for two cases so far according to the dealer.Last week I told the service manager I was going to work on a transmission cooler over the winter and he said " dont bother we've heard rumblings of a recall now on the transmission overheating issue..I will let you know.So of course I will let you guys know as well. Im not holding my breath but it is enough to make me wait and see..

Might be a dumb question but how are you measuring your oil? Just based on the dipstick or is there a low level warning or an oil level gauge/sensor? I'd get a warning light on my CTS-V and my BMW actually had an oil level gauge.

My car is using oil. I'm not losing sleep over it as it seems pretty common... but I'm not pleased about the situation to say the least. It's runs fine and doesn't smoke. I don't get how an engine make oil disappear?
