So, are we to ass-u-me they ran a leak down test with the valves open?

I understand very well how the seats and seals function. When the valve is open oil can enter the chamber through guides if the seal is leaking. What I fail to comprehend is how pressure can reach the seal if the valve is closed, as required in a leak down test.
As tempted as I am to question the dealer again, I am going to wait and see how this goes. The valve seals are on order and im waiting for the call. The dealer called the ford tech line who informed them that they are experiencing valve seal issues with this engine although I havent seen anyone else on here having this problem.

I understand, bottom line is that they get it fixed. I guess it's just my personality, I sometimes feel the "need" to know how something works. Good luck!

Well I feel the same as you however the explanation of discovering the bad seals from the leakdown test isn't sitting well with me. Just took the car to one of the top mechanics in town and his advice was to not let them into my engine yet. Said to keep pouring the oil in it and give it more time.

The last word on that was that the car was working as designed and that I should add coolers. The dealer was going to notify me as soon as an oem setup is available.Until then Im taking it easy.

Just sent a pm on facebook to one of the Romeo plant engine builders to see what his take on the valve seal issue ( or possible non-issue ) may be. Im awaiting his reply

Hey SMS,
Very much appreciate you keeping us up to date with your situation. Wondering what your mechanic would expect the outcome to be if you just kept pouring oil into it? Again, good luck!

Noticed my engine was down a quart when I did my first oil change at 1200 miles. I have had to add a quart every 650 miles since then. I have put 2800 miles on the car now and have had it three weeks. I'm using amsoil 5/50w.Also hit limp mode for the third time last night on a country backroad in 74 degree weather.I have sent the info to my dealers service tech and he is forwarding it to fords engineering dept.
Interesting.. I've got 3000 on mine with no loss yet. No limp mode either, and I hammer on it every chance I get. I use Amsoil also. Did you torque your oil filter as per spec?

Torqued the filter on to spec however did not use the recommended lock tite on the threads. Not a spec of oil in my carport/driveway or underside of my car.My oil consumption seems to be increasing as I had to add 1.7 litres today and its only been 600 kilometres since the dealer topped it up.

Obviously there are more than a few of us who would like to know how all this plays out and what, if any, reason or resolution is given to you. I wish you all the best and sincerely hope for a positive outcome.

He figures it could be just a long slow break in which is also what my closest ford dealer (non svt) told me as well. The ford dealer suggested I keep adding oil and keep a log on useage up to 10000 km. If others had to do this I figured it may be normal however I think I am the only one.My mechanic told me I should only let the ford dealership into the engine as a last resort lol.

Do you have a catch can? Doubt that much oil is going through the PCV system but a catch can will show if it is.

That is definately not normal, hope they fix the problem by replacing those seals.
How did you get a hold of one of the mechanics who works at the Romeo plant ?

I'm going to my Ford dealership tomorrow morning for that annoying rattle that's been driving me crazy since i got the car.

Hoping your issue gets resolved in a timely manner. Keep us in the loop.

My mechanic told me I should only let the ford dealership into the engine as a last resort lol.

FWIW, I ran your situation by a long time friend who was a Ford dealership mechanic, then Service manager since back in the 60's. This guy has worked on Fords all his life and he's older than I am and I hit 60 last year. I also spoke to another friend who builds engines. Both agreed that a leak test will not determine a leaking valve seal and that a leaking seal invariably smokes worst on initial start up . Oddly enough they commented that they would keep a close eye on the oil level and drive it awhile and not baby the engine as it is possible that the engine has not seated the rings yet. BTW, the older guys wife has a '65 convertible that is all original and looks like brand new.

Good luck and hope you get this sorted out soon.
