I have a 2016 Shelby gt 350. I just did an oil change in September with 10,600 miles on the car, I triple checked everything to make sure I have no leaks. I only drive the car on weekends so the miles are now at 11,800. I noticed a knocking sound started when i was driving the car a few nights ago. But when I re-started the car it went away and only came back the next day after driving for an about 20 miles on the free way. I checked the oil and the dip stick came back completely dry! So the next day I got more 5w-50 and added one quart, still nothing. I added two more quarts and the dip stick still is completely dry! There are no signs on a leak, no oil in the coolant tank, nothing in my garage floor or street outside my house! So how does 10 quarts just vanish? The car should have 13 quarts now since I added 3 more quarts and still nothing on the dip stick.

I will be draining all of the oil to see how much actually comes out. But any ideas where 13 quarts are going??

How long have you owned the car? first time it has burned this much oil? How often do you check your oil?

Are you still under the powertrain warranty? If so, you need to schedule an appointment with your local ford dealer asap to get an oil consumption test done. Burning oil is a common enough issue with the pre-19 cars. If you lose more than a quart in 500 miles, and you’re still in warranty, ford will install a new motor. I think the dipstick only registers to 8 quarts, or somewhere thereabouts.

Not too long, maybe 6 months but I only drive it on weekends. I did the oil change because I wanted to make sure it had fresh oil and so I can maintain it every 3000 miles. So this is new for me to notice.

On these cars I would suggest checking frequently as they have a tendency to burn oil. I check mine every other Saturday morning if just using as a weekend car....

Some burn more than others but yes I would definitely check on a regular basis ....

I'm a fairly new member/owner here....I learned a ton reading through the threads stuck at the top ...next time you have a few hours definitely worth the read...

And how often do you need to add oil? I looked it’s only been 1,200 miles and I just had to add 6 quarts to get a reading on the dip stick. There’s no way I can find enough 5w-50 to maintain this rate!

I find it hard to believe that your car is using a quart about every 200 miles. Check the oil in the morning after it sits all night. Pull the dip stick out on a path on the firewall side of the strut tower brace when you are checking the level.

Trust me, me too that’s why I’m reaching out on here. I called Ford and asked to schedule a oil consumption test that was recommended earlier and the guy I spoke to said NO! He said it’s in the owners manual that you need to check your oil every time you get gas and that it will burn oil really fast. But there’s no way that what happens to my car is typical

Who did the oil change? You, the dealer, or an oil change station? Is it possible you got shorted a few quarts on that last change?

So I looked at your profile to view other posts you've made. Something you've left out of this thread is the car was constantly going into limp mode. I hate to say it but I'd bet that engine was cooked. Either by you or the previous owner, but either way it won't be a simple fix.

I agree with this.... unfortunately it doesn't look good...

Is the car still under warranty?

I did the oil change, it took about 9 1/4 quarts to be full.

This car did have 3-4 owners before me and only 8,000 miles so I did purchase the warranty.
