Julio I say that because the way you put the dipstick in and the wicking effect, the fact that oil gets wiped off as it draws through the the tube. In other words if it's on the stick on either side in the range don't worry about it.

When you check it be consistent like before you drive off in the morning. This way it has been sitting for many hours.

Definitely perform a few heavy accelerations to about 6k in the first 100 miles. My car has never needed oil to be added after 3300 miles. The level is very consistent.

Thanks for the help guys. To update, after the car sat overnight it actually took 1-1/2 quarts to get to the fill line. I drove the car 170 miles today fairly spirited and I am down another quart. I am checking the oil in my garage which is as level as it gets. All the checking is done in the garage. Both sides of the dipstick match.

In the first 1000 miles it only used 1/2 a quart. It seems to be using it faster than before. I am going to call the dealer and see what they say.

Surprised to read that the highest level is the right one.
I've actually specifically asked 2 mechanics about that (my dealer and another one during a road trip), we checked the level together, and they both said that it should be the lower level.
It seemed to make sense to me because the other side of the stick seems to be receiving oil randomly, due to the motion you do to flex the stick to pull it.
Indeed, the lower level is the same every time (if you read the level quickly enough after pulling the stick), and the highest vary each time...
I've never been so confused when checking an engine oil before....

Mine has used around 1liter over the last 3000 km, which seems ok but still something to be checked very regularly (therefore the concern over the difficult -at least for me- oil level checking procedure).
When my car vibrated the filter loose I lost 2 quarts, but never lost any aspect of oil pressure.

short trips, where the car is barely warmed up when I get there, colder temps = uses oil.

When I'm driving it longer, and within the optimal temp almost all of the time, car seldom cools below 180 = uses little oil.

It seems every time I check the oil it needs 1/2 a quart. Mine is using 1 quart every 900 miles with Motorcraft 5-50. The catch can in that time got about 100ML of contaminants.

I changed the oil yesterday with Amsoil 5-50 and drained the catch can. If anything changes I will post it up.

This is the highest performance engine I have owned in a car and from reading this forum this is not unusual but makes me wonder.

Do non induced high performance cars have higher oil consumption than say a Honda Civic?
If it makes you feel any better my 2015 GT used 3-4 quarts before the first oil change.

Breaking in procedures will not harm the engine, it will just take longer the easier it is driven. I understand the concern on a large investment and oil disappearing on the stick but in most cases completely normal. Modern machining and assembly the stuff is pretty bullet proof. That said someone will have a failed part, because parts fail.
A number of years ago Car and Driver reported on an engine break in test conducted by GM. They took three new Corvettes. One was broken in gently, one aggressively, and the other just driven normally with no special break in procedure. After x thousand miles they were dynoed and the engines torn down. Results: they all made the same power and showed the same wear. They concluded that it didn't make a difference how they were broken in.
