Lug Nuts

AFAIK all ford's lug nuts are two piece.
A very big part of how they last will depend on the climate you live in. Rust belt cars will have them swell and fail far more often than warmer dryer climates.
Living in the south I've had mixed results with the stock lug nuts. My '12 Edge has been swapped for solid lug nuts, just inexpensive chrome ones. My '14 Fusion has still got stock lugs, mostly because I have a lot of spares from the Edge and Mustang. I swapped the ones on the Mustang for esthetic reasons, I wanted black to match the wheels. I used Gorilla and will post a picture. The Gorilla's have been on about 4 years with no issues at all with the finish or the high lug torque.

These look like the same ones I put on my Mustang.

Are Gorilla lug nuts impact wrench safe? I just put my jacking rails on and I was planning to get a mid-torque impact wrench to aid with tire rotation and swap out all lug nuts.

Gorilla recommends installation by hand tools and final torque applied by a torque wrench. Impact guns may be used on lug nuts only, but can damage the plating as well as apply torque beyond manufacturer’s specifications so it is not recommended.

I was thinking of using the impact wrench for removal only but I would avoid that if it still risks damaging the new lug nuts.

Do yourself a favor if you decided to replace the lug nuts go with the Gorilla lug nuts and get the black ones, the chrome ones will rust.

I use impact for removal and I also use to spin them up and contact the wheel face putting back on. Mine has 3 levels of torque output so I put on the lowest when putting on. I have to turn at least 1/2 turn with the torque wrench on each one to get to the proper torque so the impact definitely doesn't over torque them.

I think it is a good plan... Of course doing by hand is OK too, but I have a good impact so I use it

This is what I've been doing as well. Set the gun on high to get them off and low to put them on (after starting by hand) and finish up with a torque wrench to 150 ft lbs. Mine are the splined lock kind and no finish problems after 4+ years.
If you go with the splined lock type I highly suggest springing for 1 or 2 extra "keys". I keep one in the trunk with the spare, one in the glove box and one in the home toolbox.

Yea mine are starting to rust, probably from using an impact to remove. Was going to switch to black but I kind of like how chrome looks

I realized my dunking in black paint wasn't complete until I replaced my stock chrome with black Gorillas. I bought a 24" breaker bar just for removal (along with padded socket). 150 foot pounds is no joke.

Gorilla makes chrome ones.. But black would be good too..

I break them loose by hand, then spin them off with a 3/8 air ratchet with an adapter to 1/2. To put them back on I use the same 3/8 to spin them on then torque with a torque wrench.

Mine came with the spare and I didn't think I would be able to get the lugs off with the stock tool. I bought an 18" long 1/2" breaker bar and an 18" piece of iron pipe to use as a cheater bar. The pipe fits over the breaker and it all sits inside the spare wrapped in an old towel.

I’ve used Gorilla and McGard. Personally, I prefer the McGard. They seem to be more durable.
