So I’ve succumb to the 401a weight curse. Silly decision of not doing my research when buying a car.

because of that I’m trying to reduce weight on the car as much as possible without compromising its look.

with that said, I’ve heard that the seats on the 2020 401a GT premium are extremely heavy.

1. Is this true?

2. How much do they weigh?

3. What are some nice lightweight seats that I can do to replace them and how much weight do you think I can lose on the seats? I don’t need anything fancy, as long as they’re hand adjustable. I’m just looking to lose weight on this car.

4. Any other good weight reduction suggestions?

Can’t help you on the seats since I don’t want to get rid of the heated & cooled seats lol. But a couple of weight saving ideas:
1. Lightweight wheels
2. Resonator delete
3. CF or aluminum driveshaft
4. Sound tube delete
5. Rear seat delete

I've been looking at seats really closely lately. The fact that even the cloth stock seats are 50+lbs each makes the potential for weight savings pretty significant.

I really like the Vision X5 carbon fiber seats, but they're not exactly cheap, no good lightweight seat is, but from people I've known with the Vision seats, they say they are pretty comfortable, which is a plus for a daily. (I've tried to daily a kirkey and it's a pain in the ass).

The second thought I've had regarding seats is buying another set of fabric stock seats for cheap, then gutting the electronics and motor assemblies and even the heavy stock bracketry and go to an aftermarket manual slider. I'm sure you could get the seats down 20lbs each for cheap.

On other parts, there's a decent thread devoted to weight loss here: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/the-what-things-weigh-thread.15864/

I managed to lose almost 50lbs going to a fully aluminum exhaust, so there's creative ways out there and every pound adds up.

Plenty of good material/ideas to glean on this site regarding your wt# loss topic. Thus, I'll spare you many of our own perspectives on item priorities, & how we regard there loss vs cost.. Plus how we would prioritize cash expenditure if your not "bucks up".

That said, these seats have air bags, & will require resistance in the harness to omit a code if you not using a direct seat replacement. Others have done that research & posted about it, but if you cannot find it, ask.

The only other thing I will mention is the driveshaft replacement. A good choice if its just 1 of your many expenditures you can afford. Yet I would not place it as high as the other items listed by Josh, (which is a good list btw).

If you want an explanation of why its not as good a choice as the other items, we can provide that explanation as well. (It might appear that a driveshafts rotation might yield what other rotational mass items like wherls, tires, & brake rotors might. It does not.

A lite wt# battery can be a consideration as well.

Generally, a 100 pound reduction is worth a tenth of a second reduction in 1/4 mile ET.itd be much easier to work on reaction times to get to the other end quicker.the perfect RT is o.5sec

Since you only said you are concerned about looks.

Ditch rear seat. Steeda makes a nice aftermarket delete. Aftermarket front seats. You daily the car? If not, ditch the airbags (You ever felt how heavy the glove box door is? There is an airbag in there). Ditch door speakers/rear speakers. Trunk liner. AGM battery (DO NOT INSTALL LiPo. To be fair, several folks have had no issue with their LiPo, same make as mine and everything. But my AG ATX-20 couldn't power my car). Lightweight wheels (Apex is reasonably priced, and light). CF hood, CF trunk.

Now, if you want daily, my suggestions probably are not helpful. But the outside will look great!

You bought a 401a. Except the fact you bought a heavy model and throw some more power at it!

To what end? What purpose does the car serve? Toy? DD?

BMR street K member. You won't even see it, you'll lose ~50 lbs at the front, gain chassis rigidity and hopefully better handling.

"Accept" not except. But I agree just add more power. If you want a better distribution maybe even add a trailer hitch. I have one.

Whats your goal, and do you have a power adder?
