Stock 2022 Coyote. Low miles. Two oil changes so far. 5W-30. I do not use oil additives. I do not have the tick. Ford acknowledged the tick and advised nothing else is required. If I do develop the tick, I do not intend on using additives.

With respect to Ceratec, dealer interaction and warranties, maybe a sweet spot is waiting until the Powertrain Warranty expires while using a fully-synthetic oil which meets or exceeds factory specifications. While you do have a ways to go, pausing on using any additives will keep the matter from being an issue.

I've read several previous comments of Owners who take their own oil and filter to the dealer or someone they trust. If using a third party, the Ford Pass App will allow you to upload receipts, photos and your own record of the work accomplished.

Regarding the comments of Boron, attached is my oil analysis. Starting with the right-most column, the universal averages; this is what most people see in their Coyotes after 5,000 mi / 8,000 km. Moving to the left would have been first oil change and analysis of the factory fill. And the left most column would have been the most recent oil change, the first run with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

I did not decide to use PUP because of Boron and the tick. It's like using Shell for gas or Redline oil in gearboxes. It's a product virtually everyone has a positive comment about and many gravitate to.

Whatever brand you decide on, I do believe it's best to use the same oil product consistently. Yes, you can change over time, but I wouldn't be regularly changing to the flavor of the month.

I'm not a fan of changing the viscosity, changing to something other than specified in the manual. Engineers with a much better education have gifted me insight on what to use. I'd only consider changing oil viscosity if I'd modified the engine and the builder or Engineers of those parts specified a particular oil or weight.

YMMV.

Can I ask how much you are using, and if you tried a different oil first?
Casterol Edge 5W20 - 2 cans of Ceratec. However, I'll have to say that I forgot I got an oil change in July w/o Ceratec, so I can't really how my oil used to look. I don't remember it looking milky, at least on the dipstick.

@Skye ✌

All these folks using additives... meanwhile just like you - I have no tick on either one of my two old 2016 mustangs. 🤯 Shocker, right? One has 16k miles on it and the other has 74k miles. Only use 5W-30 synthetic oil that I pick up from Costco and do regular oil changes.

Crazy to think that since we go by what the manual says to do, we live without the tick? Hmm... 🤔

And then there's my '22 that's ticking with the factory fill and just under 1800 miles on the odo (and dangerously close to 1 year since build month). Heard it the first time a few weeks ago. I'm thinking I'll do the PUP 5W30 thing when I change my oil this week or next.

Whaaat? Seriously?? How is it that both my old ass mustangs with miles on them (especially the one with 74k miles!!!) avoid the tick meanwhile your basically new no mile mustang has it? Ugh Ford 👀

I have a '22, too. 1/2 of a bottle of ceratec eliminates the ticking in mine. I am going to try 1/3 bottle next oil change to see if that's enough. I also tried PUP 5w30 and didn't notice a reduction in the ticking with that alone. The 1/2 bottle of ceratec stopped the ticking immediately.

I'm just speculating, but back when the 5.4 3v was in the F150's everyone complained about the cam phaser noise. A few owners tried using a heavier weight oil and the noise didn't go away, but was noticeably quieter.
I've had several 3v 5.4s. 5 w 20 oil.all got the phaser tick. One 05 f150 lariat I bought in 2011 for 1500 bucks because the guy thought the engine was gone. I brought it home drained the oil did a tranny fluid blend in the oil. Ran it for 100miles. Dropped the oil again. At this point I had nothing to loose I started running 15 w50 Mobil one. The phaser tick was totally gone. My friends at the dealer said it was gonna fire codes at me. Never did. I ran that thing for another 50k without any issues or sounds. I sold the truck and it's still around with 300k now still running 15 50. I'm going to run 10 40 in my mach. Same as I run in my 2.0 ecobboost. Without problems or codes.

I'm not as upset as I seem about it. There's a known, tried and true fix for those of us who have it. I'll start with the higher boron oil and go from there. 👍

That's what I'm hoping will work if the PUP doesn't. Option 3 is to trade it for a $3K POS that I can truly beat on like a rented mule...lol.

IMO I'd rather beat on a car that's stock and has full warranty for many years to come. A cheap POS is probably 20+ years old with 200k miles and will blow up relatively soon, at which point it's going to the crusher and there goes $3000 down the drain.

Its not obvious if you only use one bottle. If you use two then it comes out looking like coffee creamer. But with only one bottle added to the 10 quarts of oil on board, you cant tell at all.

I used a bottle after every oil change. Dealer did the change, then in the parking lot I added the bottle of Ceratec and went on my way. You can always wait until you get home to do it or down the street at a gas station. But the tick would immediately come back after each oil change if I didnt add another bottle.

Now that Im whipple'd, I switched to 5w50 oil and there is never any tick. The heavier/thicker viscosity seems to do the same as the Ceratec did to stop the tick. And I beat on my car at the track weekly. Instead of Ceratec, you might try the 5w40 or 5w50 in place of the 5w30 and see if that helps. These motors are too loose from the factory for oil that thin.

All the 2018-2023 coyotes tick my friend. Some just do it more than others. Most people report hearing it with low miles on the factory fill (like me), or just after their first oil change.
