X pipe will definitely outperform the H pipe, if you're looking for performance. I personally enjoy the sound more as well.

I'm currently running running the Roush catback exhaust with an X pipe and it is extremely loud and aggressive. I'm already concerned about neighbors complaining about the noise (the cold starts are brutal). I can't even imagine what it will sound like when I put some long tube headers and a good tune on it.

How much sound would longtube headers add, if we were to assign a %?
Roush is only moderately loud when stock. Adding long tubes jumps to extremely loud. But keep in mind it also changes the tone so keep that in mind.

Does it change the sound in a good or bad way? I've read it can cause the sound to be a little more raspy. Does it also increase sound drone when you're just cruising?

I dont really care about the sound of the pipes as I care about performance .... which one will benefit the most for the gen 3 coyote 10 spd .... I currently have a 3inch cat back no mufflers or resonators with a x pipe ...and the car feels amazing ..top end speed is good car just wants to keep going and going ... I just dont think a H pipe will give that same feel ... I do like the sound of a h pipe more ..but again I care more about performance.

X pipe wins that one

Yeah that’s insane. I got my Steeda h pipe during their Black Friday sale this past November. I could’ve, and should’ve, gotten their X and h pipe for the same price as one of those when they’re full price. And they’re 304 stainless so no rust issues. Paying more than a few hundred bucks for a res delete seems silly to me which is why I passed on the double X and double h.

I’ve seen This another thing I question about having a crossover pipe, borla and ford racing sells a straight through resonator to replace the x pipe on a borla system….. so is a crossover pipe not needed?

As always. If i comment..is cause I tested ☺
The feeling comes for sure from sound.
X pipe will always "sounds more angry"
HOWEVER
the cat back does add 12-14whp to our cars.
I dynoed before and after the installation.
Those numbers were also.seen by Billy Johnson (pro.ford driver)

I would include the Borla SwitchFire X-pipe in my considerations if I were looking for performance.

The Borla has an internal H style crossover built into the resonator. The Ford Performance resonator appears straight through but each of the main exhaust tube runs have a hole cut into the sidewall.
Borla is fiber packed.
Ford Perf. is a open chamber with no packing.

Personally I’m not a fan of fiber packed exhaust systems based on sound preference.
AWE, CORSA or even Gibson are my favorites.

I agree, I’m not a fan of any mufflers packed with fiberglass, wool or anything …. Rather have a empty muffler lol

i still wonder why borla doesn’t include it with their car backs….. if it was that good you think they would
