For a cat back exhaust which is better for overall performance and sound, X or H pipe?

People don't agree so what is the point of asking. It is like asking which is better chocolate or vanilla? You can find vendors making both and claiming that theirs makes more hp. You simply have to decide for yourself.

I think the one thing you might find a majority agreement on an H pipe sounds more like your idea of a traditional muscle car while a X pipe sounds more like a euro GT car.

I personal like the deeper tone if the h pipe, x pipes sound more raw and a little more on the raspy side (11-14 speaking).

+1 on the H-pipe having a deeper sound. Mine will have an H. But I have heard X-pipes on the Coyote and they sound good too. But my preference is the H.

Cool Sound H-Pipe

I agree I have had three different systems on my existing 2011 GT. The "H" pipe hands down retains the Muscle Car rumble both on acceleration and deceleration. Where the "X" pipe in most cases delivers smoother and faster flow of the spent gases. It's the slight interruption the "H" presents that give the Muscular sound.

Because there are no dumb questions. The point was, he was looking for opinions.

How's this...... What's the point of bolting a stock supercharger to another motor? Pointless. Overpriced manifold, to bolt on factory inefficient technology, when for a handful more cash, you can get far and away more advanced and 3x more efficient technology. .......

I think H pipe sounds best with lumpy cam.
I'll most likely never do a cam swap on my future S550 Coyote (it's already got 13mm lift) so, for me, H & X are pretty equal... Sound different but equally cool. Maybe, watch some youtube videos, listen to your buddies' cars, attend a car meet and pick whichever sounds good to you.

I could explain it but it is already obvious you wouldn't be able to understand. And opinions are like .....

Listen to the Stainlessworks H-pipe video and tell me there's anything better. Man, that's just the best.

Agree. The SW has that great deep low idle rumble and stays deep instead of becoming whiny during acceleration. The Gibson system was similar but just didn't hear enough of it to compare to the SW, Magnaflows, and FRPP.

In the research I did, H-Pipes tend to be a benefit lower in the rpm range and X-Pipes tend to help on the top end.

So, it just depends where you want your power.

For sound, H-Pipes tend to be deeper and more rumble, where X-Pipes tend to be higher pitched and loud, esp. on the top end.

I really liked the sound of the Gibson X-Pipe Cat Back, and even had them on order. But another person bought it and regretted the decision, so I cancelled my order knowing I really don't want loud, and they were very loud and aggressive.

So, now I'm going back to my original thought that an H-Pipe would be best for what I want, and so Stainless Works is at the top of the list. The problem is, I'm having a hard time talking myself out of just going all-in with their headers w/ high flow Cat and full Cat Back system to get the full 3" all the way through.
