Plus the dumb ass skip shift that you have to delete right away to not want to kill yourself
I'm surprised you didn't adapt your driving to bypass this. All you had to do was use more throttle.

I also had Unleashed remove it with a tune setting and in case of the Mopar, just pull out the rod.

Low rpm? Redline? I'll give you that. but i keep all the v8s on a boil, over 2500 rpm all the time. I quit using 6th entirely on all my cars unless over 80 mph.

I installed the below four Steeda MT82 parts and mine shifts great. Was never too disagreeable even when stock but it's close to a rifle bolt now.

All are currently on Black Friday sale for $225 total. Mention that you're an M6G member and they'll probably throw in free shipping.

$119

Plus a solid stainless steel shifter ball to replace the stock knob. Weighs over a pound and helps it go into gear with less force.

$50

I still plan to switch my fluid to Motul Multi DCTF for even smoother fast shifts.
THANK YOU! Getting all these parts for mine!!

I've missed a few shifts, but all-in-all, it's one of the better transmissions I've had. Is the M1/GT350 better...probably, but you're gonna pay for it.

I've read a lot of negative comments regarding the MT82 and was wondering was sort of issues people are running into with these, since I have a 2021 GT fitted with this transmission and I haven't found anything wrong with it. I've driven a lot of different cars, including Corvettes, Porsches and BMWs, all with manual transmissions and honestly I would rate my MT82 as being on par with some of these. I haven't driven the Tremec, so maybe it's way better. I don't know.
Hey this is Junior from N4SM, Overall the MT82 isn't THAT bad. It's a stock transmission you can't expect too much out of it to begin with. I still have the stock trans on my Boosted 2016 GT on e85 that's about 800whp. It's been great, I did the BG Full Synthetic Fluid, MGW Shifter and a solid shifter mount, I haven't had any issues. I don't beat on the car too much but it has lasted me doing data logs for my tuner and a couple races. Clutch choice is a big factor, too hard of a clutch will grenade it.

How much power are you making with boost? You might be on borrowed time depending on the power level and how often you beat on it. What complaints do you have with the clutch?
im on 8psi not sure what it dynos. on 93 as well. Im sure the clutch will go bye bye before the transmission but who knows. I dont beat on it much honestly. I just hate the release point of the clutch and how inconsistent it is with the release point. I like my clutch to release near the floor not the top .

When I really push on mine I can get 2nd - 3rd lockout. If I slow the shift just a little it will take handle it. For where and how I drive, it works fine, just have to be aware of how hard I slam on the shifter.

I'd check the clutch first.
I have a strong suspicion that most of the lockout issues that people blame the gearbox for are actually due to the clutch.
I'll agree with that. I only had occasional lockout into 3rd gear if I tried to shift really fast stock. If I was slower and smoother, no issues really. Now with an aftermarket clutch I can bang gears at 8k shifts all day without even thinking about it.

Have you thought about installing a clutch pedal stop to fine-tune and get rid of some of the excess slop? I put one in my car and it works great. Here’s the link to where II bought mine. I purchased the one for an ‘05-‘09 Mustang.

I had E92 M3, AP1 S2000, and 2016 Porsche GT4 before this car. So, I can say I know how a good trans should feel. Having said that, MT82 on my 2019 Bullitt functions well and feels just fine to me. The transmission on E92 was not good. Some might like it but it was very loose, had a lot of play even in gears, the clutch was too light and the bite point was very vague. S2000 trans was good. Short throw and felt very mechanical and engaging. Felt very well made indeed. The GT4 trans was alright. Very notch when cold. Frequent grinding into 2nd gear. Not a lot of feel due to being cable driven. Every transmission has its own strengths and weaknesses. MT82 is not perfect but not hugely worse than those I mentioned I think. Use it right and you will be fine.

I'm happy for you, fr. But that's not really "no problems". I'm probably going to do the same this year (as I'm convinced it's the clutch not disengaging all the way). But we're talking about spending $2k on a 2yr old car so it won't lock you out of a shift randomly?
Your theory about the clutch may be correct.

The 2-3 lockout for me was an occasional problem on HPDE days at ACS, and I never liked the OEM clutch and how it engaged under load. So I spent a few shekels and went back to ACS and went faster than ever. Plus, it does drive a whole lot better. And $2K is nothing compared to the money pits I've dumped money into before.

I get 3rd gear lock out now and then, about 2500 miles in. I have the heavier Mach1 shift knob (cue ball style) and it lessened the frequency, but i still get it once in a while. Super annoying, not a deal breaker but I can see why it can really tick people off.

My last 2 cars were an FR-S and an ND miata, and the MT82 is definitely not up there with how good it feels compared to those two, but it has a lot more power and torque to contend with so i give it a pass.

I think this is a great point that comparisons to lower torque applications are not relevant. Everything in the transmission has to be stronger in order to handle the higher forces associated with higher torque. Linkage, dogs, gears, synchros, and shafts. 400+ lb-ft vs 150 for the little 2.0 L engines. Not the same.

Most peer level engines are only available in platforms that cost much more and, therefore, are mated to more sophisticated transmissions. The Camaro and Challenger/Charger are an exception but it seems that Tremec 6060 transmission is also not perfect.

I had both a 1999 Mustang GT with a Borg-Warner T-45 and a 2002 Camaro SS with a Tremec T-56. Neither shifted as cleanly and consistently as the MT82-D4 in my current car, as modified below.

People's opinions will line up with their experiences.

When I had my 2018, I'd tell you the MT82 isn't a bad trans at all.

When I had my 2020, I'd tell you, Well...the MT82 is alright, not perfect but could be better.

Now that I have a 2022 Mach 1 with the Tremec...sheesh. The Tremec is butter smooth with decent clutch feel and the MT82 is just okay.

I will say I do like the long gearing of the D4 better than the Tremec.

I agree, that or the body mounted shifter and car to car variance on how the engine and trans are installed.
Yes, the rear trans body mount has a ton of side to side slop. If retaining the body mount shifter moving the trans side to side can impact how the shifts feel.

Got a quick slightly off topic question.

Since the easiest comparison here is MT82 versus TR-3160 does the Mach1 & Dark Horse use the same clutch as a GT or the GT350?
