Did you check the oil level on the dipstick after the oil change?
Yes. All was good. Oil last checked about 100 miles ago. All was good then too.

This kind of reminds me of back in the day. We would shut the car off then next day it wouldn't start. Classic symptom of a stripped timing gear.

If the dealer tells you what broke, let us know.

Looks like these are interference engines so a broke chain would lock up the engine.

Will definitely let you know when they start the tear down and we get an answer

Normally, if Ford decides to replace the motor they don't allow a teardown.

Oh really? They don't need to tear down to determine if it needs to be replaced?

You stated that it was determined to be a catastrophic failure, in that case they replace the engine. They will remove all the accessories and strip it down to a bare engine.

That's what dealer said, but also said "it could be the timing chain"

well that would make sense....timing snaps the whole engine tends to go bye bye....you do get some lucky scenarios.

As a best case scenario, it almost seems to be symptomatic of a failed camshaft position sensor.

Per dealer right now: "It looks like the engine is seized. We are going to start tearing it down to see what caused it"
