Not a fan of Galpin's sales tactics but I suppose they should have a competent service department.
Neither am I, and no not who he bought the car from (though we've bought from them in the past), but it is who we use for servicing both cars. They performed the only maintenance that has been done on the car so far

Not a fan of Galpin either but they should be competent enough to do an oil change. They're a big dealer and service these cars (GT500, 350, Ford GT) a lot.

When you said you heard it knock on that start up with a puff of smoke, I was afraid it could be major. Sucks to hear man but hopefully it's all taken care of soon.

Agree, they service a lot of GT's, and Shelby's so they should be competent with that. Always confirmed with the tech/advisor how many quarts of oil, and type.

I was too man... sucks that it's come to this.

How many miles on the car since the oil change?

Edit....so an additional 1200. It'll be interesting to hear the diagnosis.

Probably between 700-1000 miles since the change. It wasn't done at exactly 1000 miles, I just can't remember the exact mileage

If your dad has all the receipts, I'd go back and look at the one for the oil change and make sure it doesn't say "...changed oil. 7 quarts of 10W-30. Send it."

The accrued mileage when the oil change was done should be on the receipt too.

Will have him check after work. waiting on a call from him, I guess the dealer called with more news. Will update when I hear that

Major Update

"Catastrophic engine failure, we are having a field rep from Ford come out since this is the first one we've seen in a GT500 and need them here to tear it apart to see if this is going to be an issue with others" (text from dealer) They are already saying 1-2 months. What are the options here. It sounds like he wants to keep the car if the timeline is reasonable to getting it fixed.

What are the options here at getting extended plans/warranties if he keeps it? Is that through Ford Corporate or the dealer fixing it?

That SUX! I wonder if the oil change was the issue? As in they did not put enough oil in the car and it finally caught up with the engine????

Not that it matters really, but did you dad drive the car like I drive mine? Like I am on a race track every time I get in the car after it warms up to temp of course then it's paddle shifting, high RPM, late and hard braking, and mashing the gas.

As far as was what to do, I have no experience on the subject to offer an opinion.
