Le mans is about luck. And fortuitous durability. The gtd is a street car. It's mettle will never be tested.

It's not near embarrassing to get waxed by a Corvette than it is to look like dilletants on world tv racing.

We shall see.

I'm in the mindset of Ford being innovated, trying new and exciting things. Sticking with what's tried and true grows old for me. They've been supercharging the halo Mustangs since 03. The 5.2 has been around for almost 10 years. If we're talking about the 5L, the Coyote has been around for almost 15 years.

I'm talking about a Mustang...and they don't make the Ford GT anymore.
The LS engines have been made since 1997 that’s almost 30 years ago.
I think they should have stuck with the flat plane with some of the 5.2 and maybe even make more of them. But the coyote is still relatively young.

LS4 was a FWD-only V8 made only in the mid 2000’s for a handful of years FYI. If you meant LS1, that got pulled for the LS2 about 7-8 years later from its intro date. The LS got shelved for the DI-only LT engines beginning in 2014. So while they’re cam-in-block V8’s, that’s about all they have in common. GM to their credit keeps pushing them forward. I wouldn’t say their development times are too different than Fords.

Yeah, I was thinking about the whole LS series of engines. It seems like they haven’t changed anything for way longer than 30 years. That’s what I get for not knowing much about the LS.

No worries my man, it’s the same general engine architecture so pretty easy to confuse. But GM has definitely put effort into keeping that engine design viable.

I wish they had taken the 5.2 from the 350 and made it a special version for the GT or use in the dark horse or Mach1.

Actually, if you research you will find out that GM has made a lot of changes to the LS. At one point I was stunned when they actually changed which bank of cylinders was forward of the others. The modern LS actually has a lot of similarity to a 60s small block Ford. To be fair, there are a lot of differences as well.

Even just displacement has been a big improvement to the LS engines. I wish Ford would have been willing to add some displacement. Instead, we are stuck with 5 liters since 2011. 5.2 is basically a slight overbore of a 5.0. A 4% increase to me doesn't count for anything other than marketing/sales propaganda. It's not going to give a significant power difference.

It might only be 4% but if they put the aluminuminator crate engine in any production mustang with 580 hp I don’t think they would have any trouble selling them.

I agree that would sell.

Or if they went to a 6.2 liter engine based off the current production 5.0 and made 620 hp with added reliability and reduced cost - even better.

30 less then :)

The 2013 GT500 could hit 200mph with only 660hp...a lot less handling-related aero (aka drag) on that car
