Waiting for the GTD fanbois

🍿
What are you waiting for? I would fully expect a car with 200+ more hp to have a higher top speed. Top speed also doesn’t necessarily mean it’s faster around a track. Straight line, sure.

I want to see power/weight comparisons, which we don’t have yet.

Even if it had the Corvette's aero it's going to be 20-25mph short with the 200 less HP
Someone will tune one up to 1200.

I wish they had taken the 5.2 from the 350 and made it a special version for the GT or use in the dark horse or Mach1.

Well, they did really. The Voodoo is already pretty special as is, but the even beefier version is the Predator in the GT500/Raptor R. From a marketing perspective, they would have had to make a "less special" version if they were going to put it in the GT, or rethink the entire lineup. If the GT had the voodoo as a baseline of performance without a massive cost increase, with the promise of even better versions in higher trims now THAT would be something.

Yeah I guess that’s what I mean I wish they didn’t stop making the 350 but just gave it a refresh with the new body style.

For them to make excuses about how it'd go 233 BUT ITS MADE FOR THE TRACK
(as if if the Corvette is not)
K.

Top speed isn’t everything, at least not to me. If GTD has better power/weight (not saying it does or doesn’t because we don’t know yet), then the ZR1’s numbers don’t carry as much weight IMO. And if the ZR1 does beat the GTD on track, good for GM. I don’t think Ford gives a lick what Corvette does, Farley has mentioned Porsche numerous times when talking about GTD. That’s their target. Maybe Mustang and Corvette will be viewed as competitors since they’re the last two American V8 sports cars standing, but they’re vastly different cars.

We’re lucky to still have 2 US manufacturers pushing the limits with these V8’s when they easily could’ve mailed it in like everyone else. I like the GTD styling better along with all the other goodies, so if my wallet allowed that’s the one I’d go for. C8 styling is just ok to me, although there are some cool colors for ZR1 coming. I’d much rather have a C7 ZR1 than a C8 ZR1, but that’s just me.

Oh yeah, if GTD comes in meaningfully lighter than the ZR1, I’m putting my money on GTD for a faster Ring time. I think their times will be close regardless and I’m probably in the minority there. I’ve seen several comments here and elsewhere that think ZR1 is going to blow it out of the water. I could be wrong but I just don’t see it unless GTD is somehow a bloated pig (I don’t see that either).

I agree with you they are not targeting corvette as their main competitor they are targeting Porsche 100% the GTD is supposed to be a GT3RS rival even the owners of the ford GT will take their GT3 to the track more often than the GT. GTD is supposed to be the replacement for that.

And I’m not a C8 ZR1 hater, I just prefer the looks and sound of the GTD more. No denying that GM built a monster, top speed just isn’t the end all be all for me. It’s rare you can get the car to top speed anyway.

Both should put up impressive Ring times, it’s just that Ford isn’t benchmarking against the Vette. Maybe Corvette is benchmarking against GTD, but I tend to doubt that as well.

As I mentioned previously, I’m just glad these two American car companies are still producing these badass machines when most everyone else is packing it up. Ford is on record of saying the V8 will stay in Mustang for as long as demand is there, I hope Vette does the same. Those are our last 2 options with the CT5-V BW sunsetting in a couple years.
