My 22 Mustang GT is premium with all the features and i can sell it for almost what i paid, but the base c8 is pretty stripped down feature wise and they say you should get the 2LT and i dont think the z51 package is worth it but even 2lt c8 is about 78k and I never spent that much on a car before and idk if its worth it I feel like at that price i would rather have a GT500 cause even if its slower it still has the utility of back seats that can be folded down to carry stuff

otherwise what car would be a step up from mustang GT but cheaper than c8 or gt500?

Well… 1st, I don’t believe you’ll get anywhere near what you paid for a 22. Those prices have dropped like a rock.

the A90 Supra would be a good middle ground. since you’re bringing up used cars a older M3/M4 would be on the list as well as ZL1.

I would look at used vehicles.

C7 or Camaro could be options. I loved my GT350 and believe it's a significant step up from a stock GT. Your priorities seem to be mostly opposite mine, though. I avoid premium interiors and prefer base. Z51 is a necessary option on a Corvette to me.

Maybe for you a used Cadilac V? Quick plus luxurious?

“Expensive” is subjective…. $100k is expensive to some, just as $30k is to others….

Whatever the decision is, never get upside down in a car (meaning, have enough $$$ that you can afford the car, the fuel, maintenance, the insurance and lastly the “whoopsie” when the block gets ventilated and there’s no warranty to cover it —— ). Be happy, don’t be car poor….

As mentioned too - the days of getting “bank” for used cars is 2-3 years too late…. The market has bottomed out and people got smarter (imagine that) and aren’t paying ridiculous 2x-3x inflated above market prices for used vehicles. If you do get what you paid (whatever that value is…), you’ll be lucky.

I’ve seen quite a few M6Gers jump from a Mustang into a Vette, Porsche, and Supra…. as well as a slew of other vehicles, so test drive some vehicles and see what fits. Sometimes the vehicle looks great, has great performance specs, but once you get in it and drive it a bit, the physical experiences may not be as great as the looks and online hub-bub.

I’d say it depends. My dealer calls me almost weekly offering to buy my car (and put me in a new S650). Offer price has consistently been what I paid for it (I negotiated mine under MSRP when I ordered it in 2022). Now granted, that’s not MSRP but they are willing to give me what they know I paid for it. They have customers looking for S550’s that don’t want S650…

Grabber blue can't hurt, either. Awesome color.

Yeah I think the color has something to do with it too. It’s an awesome color indeed.

What are your goals/desires and constraints (beyond price range)?

I came from an A90, so I have first hand experience with the pros/cons of that platform vs. the S550.

OP, as to the question of if a C8 is overpriced. I would say it depends. My brother in law has a 3LT with Z51. I don’t know what he paid for it but he’s not one that pays full price for anything. So, if you can find a dealer that will negotiate, you can probably get a decent deal on one. The performance is there, it can and does beat stock GT500’s in the quarter mile, but the GT500 does win in the 1/2 mile. On a track, it’s a coin flip. Shorter tracks where the GT500 can’t use its HP advantage, the C8 usually wins. Bigger tracks where the GT500 can stretch its legs, the GT500 usually wins. I personally prefer the 500 over the C8.

The GT350 is a good upgrade from a GT if you want a manual and want to stay with a Mustang.

As others have said, the typical “upgrade” from S550 seems to be M2/M3, Supra, Porsche and C8. I personally prefer the C7 over the C8, more so because of the looks but I also fit a little better in a C7. The new M2 is ugly to me and the Supra is more or less a BMW.

It really all depends on what you want. A Camaro ZL1 is another good option if you can get past the visibility issues. And if you like yachts, you can go the Charger/Challenger route and get a Poo Pack or Hellkitten 🤭.

Mags1 you’re dealership is just trying to drum up business, I get calls from dealers i bought trucks from back in 2009 wanting me to come trade it in.

They’re just going through the Rolodex on a slow day looking to hustle someone.

same with refi’s.

C8 is a bargain. Mid-engines, well-engineered car that keeps up with much more expensive cars. Mustang - especially a regular GT is not even remotely comparable to a C8.

Maybe. I’ve bought a few vehicles from them and I know the GM well, he calls me more than the salesperson does. He also tries to get me to sell whenever I come in for oil changes. I’ve had formal offers in writing from them, so it’s legit. I just shred them when I get home. I love my car, not interested in trading it for an S650 at this point

I would submit that no new cars are good deals. The C8 doesn't even come with a manual transmission. What a rip off! It's supposed to be sporty.

All new cars are set up to broadcast information to insurance companies with your driving habits (plus who knows what else?). Most either have turbos or DI (high cost and lower durability). Many have major components like engine blocks that are designed to be thrown away rather than being easily rebuildable. Cylinder count keeps shrinking, as does displacement. I'd rather drive something 10+ years old with a drivetrain swap or other upgrades as necessary.

To be fair, it's fun to own something new. And on the positive side a new car can be properly insured for replacement value.

I get emails from the dealer every week on our cars...

sad how much the prices have gone down in two years

it's funny though, lots of people on the Mustang subreddit still willing to get bent over talking about "the used market is crazy!"
