For those of you who have done the upgrade... I know this is subjective, but how hard is the rebuild. I'm an ASE master tech, I own my own shop and I've rebuilt engines, but have never had an auto trans apart. I have a really good 3rd party 10r80 rebuild manual but wondering if I'd be getting in over my head.

I have the ford manual, but I also have this amazing manual that that has tons of actual pictures and details on how to make and/or improvise on the special tools but it didn’t quite give me the courage I needed.

do road course racers benefit from this?
There should be, but not many people if any have tested those parts on a road course. More fluid, more clutches and stronger clutch material will definitely increase the life of the unit under constant load and shifting while on a road course.

I know @Flyhalf has destroyed a few stock units on the track and now has a built one but not sure what he's done to it.

Bankyf,

In actuality, you really cannot put the trans together incorrectly. If you have a good size, clean, well lit layout area, just remove the main shell assembly and take it apart in the order and orientation (up or down) of the sub-assemblies and you should do fine.

Some of the apply pistons may require some ingenuity in getting them to compress, but it should not be to great of an obstacle.

I enjoy it personally.

I thinks so.

fords tsb for valve body overhaul is just replacing the same parts with new parts. Due to wear that messes with the learned adaptive strategy.

If you look at midnight performances YouTube you can see solenoids bent out of the valve body.

So common most places that build transmissions will not overhaul without a new valvebody

Any input on the sun coast valve body? Unnecessary? Good upgrade? I’d assume it would address that issue as well?

First time working on a transmission. There are a few YouTube videos that were very helpful.
Took about 4 hours for me to get them out with the car on QuickJacks.
Probably can take less than 2 - 3 hours if you have a proper lift.

I have a new 10R80 going in which I'll upgrade with Suncoast clutches but I took apart and reassembled the one that came out the car to practice and also to figure out the issues I was having with the trans.

B and F clutches were toast with the F clutches so bad the bottom three steels were stuck to the drum.
I'll also be doing valve body bypass deletes when I can get my hands on one paired with an external thermostat and beefier cooling setup.
Power By The Hour suggests changing the trans fluid and filter more frequently with forced induction, at least every 5 - 10k miles depending on power level and how hard you push the car.

Overall was easier than I thought it would be and is really just like Legos 😀

Thank you for documenting your work.

When the trans went, was it particular gears only or did you have a more overall failure?
