FurdfN2108,

Really well with one exception. I still had an annoying 5 - 6 mini flare a low rpm (2,000 - 2,500). Not consistent, but still there.

Since I had made so many trans tune adjustments, I re-flashed the TCM with the OEM programming and started from scratch and built a new program using the HP Tuners guidelines.

This nearly fixed the 5 - 6 low speed flare, but still there. Then I started experimenting with Torque Management [TM] (was using shift timing and pressure before), and low and behold, I found the recipe.

As you reduce the TM numbers in the HP Tuners software, the ignition timing being applied is reduced. I was doing the opposite, which was wrong.

I nearly had it perfect, then I modified the "Oncoming Ramp Inertia" by reducing this numerically. This dialed in the 5 - 6 shift perfectly in the 2K - 2.5K range.

So to answer to your question, the 10R can be a real challenge to tune, but once dialed in, it's friggen' awesome. The trans hits hard in Sport or Sport+ and on boost, it's just fantastic. No issues to speak of all. I love it now.

It's working to near perfection all the way around. If it came this way from Ford, all the gripes would probably be non-existent.
How is your transmission now? What problems does it have?
What would you do differently?
Thank you.

Sorry for being absent for a while. Annoyingly enough the low speed lite throttle 5-6 flare has resurfaced. Dang.

I don't believe the HP Tuners interface is working right since I have made some huge pressure changes in the 1350-2000 rpm range in the 5-6 shift and I get no response from this file change. HP Tuners screen will freeze/lockup a the end of a file transfer. So far HP Tuners has not been a lot of help.

So I broke out my Ngauge and transferred my revised trans tuning to this device and downloaded. Going to take a test drive this coming weekend and see what happens.

Trans works fantastic with the Adaptive Learning Strategy disabled. I think this is one of the more pressing issues with Fords software, based on the how my particular trans works with it active and disabled.

If I can get the 5-6 thing resolved, with a good solid build with upgraded fibers, steels, and proper hydraulic tuning, 10R could be great.

Hope this helps someone else in the future. Found out the HP Tuners MPVI2+ download interface has not been working. I reached out to HPT and sent them several debug.dat files per their request for troubleshooting and they said everything was good. Problem was my TCM was not responding to input changes.

HPT missed the issue.

I know this for sure because I broke out my trusty Ngauge, converted the HPT file to an .enc file, and down loaded. Results were immediate and all the programming changes I was expecting were felt in the trans.

This includes the 5-6 low speed flare. Not only does it not flare, but is now over-pressure and "hits" hard in this specific range. This will be easy to fix.

So I'm happy, but I'm also p_ssed.

Are you able to share your .hpt tune? Or at least what parameters you've changed and worked well?

I'm just starting to get into messing with the transmission now after dialing in the engine side. Seems a bit overwhelming with all the gears and different mapped points.

EFI,

I would my glad to help. About the only thing I have not messed with is shift points. Most anything else there is a good chance I could help.

After 2+ years of doing this, I can at least keep you out of trouble.

Yeah I'm not worried about the actual shift points, those seem pretty on point. If I'm messing around anyway I'll be in full manual mode so those don't matter. But anything else I do want to make better.

Can you shoot me a PM with what you have? Thanks!

EFI,

I can, but if you purchase the HP Tuners Suite, you will get a written tuning guide for the 10R.

My tune also deletes the adaptive learning strategy, that i believe is one of the worst things Ford did to the 10R. This alone helps a lot.

I initially purchased their tuning suite 17 years ago when I was tuning LS engines...I doubt Ford even knew what a 10R was at that time so I didn't get this guide.

I tried disabling the adaptive feature with Forscan, and the car drove worse than ever. For me, driving around with the active adaptive learning is much smoother. Not smooth by any means, but definitely better than with it disabled.
