For everyone who thinks an auto is faster you clearly can't drive and have never done so...
Auto faster in a straight line ONLY! If you really want a drives car and not an arm chair you have a manual, round a lap a manual is so much faster! Entering corners, exiting corners, balancing the car, you can do things in a manual that are impossible in an auto due to zero clutch control, autos always get flustered and can't tell their ass from their face, never know what gear to be in and have slow gear changes, I have tested personally in M3s and 911s, M3 manual was faster than a auto in a straight line, HOWEVER... the Porsche PDK system is amazing! You can't change gear faster it's incredible, engaging both a gear up and down prepared for anything you throw at it, most autos are so simplistic with no engineering and are absolutely awful, a True driver would always go with a manual if your looking for performance,
This might be the case if the automatic does not have a manual mode or you are still living in 1990's. I don't see how an automatic in manual mode is gonna be any slower than manual. And if you say clutch control and race track, you clearly has never done a road course. The key to a fast smooth lap is not have shifting affect your line using heel and toe to not upset the car. And why do you need to know what gear you are in? You either pick a lower gear when slowing down or up a gear when engine hits red line. People ride/race motorcycles for ages and they dont need to know what gear they are in. M3 automatic depending which one you are talking about. The SMG system is no different than a regular manual so of course it won't be faster. Modern automatics are so clever it will lock up the torque converter so it behave just like a DSG. Some automatics would even soften the shift if you shift mid corner to not upset the car.

Man this topic always brings out a bunch of name calling. All forums have that kind of childish behavior but It sure seems to happen here a lot in many different threads.

I like my automatic 5.0! i like the rev matching and using the paddle shifts is a load of fun. For a daily driver is perfect.

Now OP asked about transmissions!

Please correct me if i am wrong because i am not a mechanic.
But the manual transmissions have "wearable parts" that must be replaced friction disk and pressure plates.

That is just not the case on automatic transmission.

Well, technically speaking, automatics also has clutches and wear items. They just last longer but cost more to replace.

Not entirely true.

Automatic transmissions have several clutch packs and bands - hydraulically applying and releasing them is how you get into each of the different "gears". These things do wear (part of the reason that old AT fluid isn't the same color as fresh fluid right out of the bottle), and sometimes a band will actually break (I have seen this, and I might still have the little broken-off end to take a picture of for you).

A whole industry (AAMCO and others) has come into existence to keep the automatic transmissions in peoples' cars and light trucks running right, and now automatics are even subject to electronic gremlins because it's the PCM that actually commands the shifts to happen. What you're doing with the lever or paddles is a making polite requests to the PCM so it can tell the AT to make it happen.

It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning is winning...I chose the manual in order to drive slow :)

For the price of a stupid watch, I choose Whipple supercharger.
Sport bikes.
Don't watch them. Pointless since I will never have the chance to do either in my life.

Auto is just so damn boring to drive unless you are strictly drag racing the car or something. It takes a ton of the driving enjoyment out of any car for me. If it had a dual clutch auto or something I could see it being a bit of fun with the paddle shifters but manual wins for fun factor every time by a loooong shot.
I too was concerned that the Auto would be boring, but the paddles do make a big difference.. I came from many years of Manuals myself. But my experience with the '11s MT-82 just had me too gunshy this time so I went with the Auto and I still have fun with I'm out in the 'Stang.. I will say I would like to see Ford add a dual clutch for more precision in the Auto.

Classic.

I seem to go back and forth from manual to auto with every purchase. This time I purchased an auto after having a stick for almost 10 years. Love the auto... after going through gears for 10 years straight, sorry, having an auto is much more fun. Well, playing with a stick is no fun...

I really want to get a manual in a 2016 Gt but i was wondering how the paddle shifters felt with the auto. Anyone have any like/dislikes to throw around?
I live in the Bay Area of California. I bought a 2015 GT/PP and took delivery on Dec 4, 2014. I hated rowing through the gears in traffiic, light to light, stop to stop. And I mean HATED! It just took all the fun out of driving the car for me.

So much so that after driving down to Monteray and Carmel from San Jose on the 4th of July, that was it, never again.

A month later in August, I sold the car back to the dealer and ordered a 2016 GT Premium w/Auto and 3.55's.

Now I have what I want and should have gotten to begin with. I love the tranny.
Sport mode using the paddles andthe matching rev. Down shifting is great. Flip to track mode and even better. Use the paddles, hold the gear as long as you want.

Just leave it in drive, take off from the stop light, just zoom and roar away. No body can out shift you. Absolutly fantastic.

When I had the manual in the PP, w 3.73's, conbined with the steep first gear of the MT-82 tranny. It was redicuious, you had to grab second gear before you even rea hed the other side of the intersection.

I'll take my stock GT with the auto and 3.55's against a stock GT/PP , take off from a dead stop and beat it everytime. They'll never catch me!
