wrong spark plug gap sounds like a skill issue

I pretty much agree with this. Although it does sound like the issue on this particular car stemmed largely due to the spark plug gap being set wrong. But still, a NA car will always have better heat management on a track. That is why a GT350/Mach1/DH (Stock) can lap pretty much full bore and not have many thermal management issues..

You would of figured the Tech would of gapped the plugs for a Boosted motor ,not NA . An elementary mistake that most likely a Master Tech installing the SC .

The only real issue affecting roots-style supercharged cars is heat soak and resulting superheated intake air

turbocharging is a far better way to go for forced induction track cars.

but this issue was present before heat soak ever set in.

meh, it’s common knowledge…but let’s wait for them to run it with correct gap before we light the pitchforks 🫠

^ this...
... to add; Turbos and Centrifugal SC (Both are forced induction) have been very viable and commonly used for track applications. I've certainly seen these applications from low end grassroots to high end professional GT classes. The title of this thread is misleading (no offense meant at all OP). I'm not trying to come off as rude, but for anyone researching things like this it has the potential to steer someone in the wrong directions.

Did they seriously think running that car on a track with cats was not going to be a problem, regardless of plug gap? The fact that they sound like they are putting new cats on and going to take it back for another run is just plain stupid.

Not misleading at all. You can't just simply bolt another 350hp onto a car and expect it to survive being flogged at the track. Ford had to put six radiators on the front of the GT500 along with testing and wind tunnel time etc. and they still overheat under hard use.
