Replace. Thats too old for tires which have been in service.

tires on the carrera GT crash that killed Paul Walker were 9 years old.

treat your car well and it will treat you well.

Yes, tires were old but not only was no proof that the tires were a contributing factor, we also don’t know how the car/tires were stored/ parked for those 9 years
The cause of the accident was deemed to be unsafe speed for the circumstances
Going 100mph in a 45mph zone
As for me, i feel totally confident in being able to ascertain
the shape of my tires
You have coolant hoses that are totally fine after 30 years…. Made out of rubber too
Manufacturers play it safe because of liability
They don’t know how the tires are used/stored .. plus they are in the business of selling tires
Some of my tires ( race) only last a couple of day and couple hundreds miles
Tires have 3 enemies:
Temperature
Ozone. Produced by electric motors
And Uv/sun
Read the official Sheriff report… not some you tuber conspiracy theory

What about 2020 tires that were driven less than 7k miles, with the car always stored underground and used in HPDE about 2 months ago. Do you guys think it's ok to use it at least once more in another HPDE (beginner) next week, as the tire shows no sign of damage?

I don't drive the car that much but there's still thread left for at least one more event and daily drive until winter. I'm hoping I'm overthinking this and it should be ok, since for next year I'm planning to change it before subsequent track events (5 years old would be my limit for track events).

There is a reason manufacturers have to put dates on tires.

Don't use old tires or old oil.
Why the old oil? I'll often pick up multiple jugs when on sale and it sits for a year or two? If sealed it shouldn't degrade, or are you referring to it being old in the engine? Is there a shelf life to the additives I'm unaware of?

From your description, it should be fine.

Do check for actual performance or reduction thereof once on track and adjust driving accordingly, of course.

I've read of instances of settling of stuff at the bottom of old oil bottles and talk of additives settling? Personally for the time frame you mentioned the thought doesnt enter my mind though.

Heck on beaters I've used partial bottles of oil much older than that that I happen on laying around, for top ups. You know, the half quarts leftover from oil changes on other cars lol.

Would be interested if there is more to it though!

I would buy NOS 4 year old tires if I knew they would be worn out in 6 mths . I change my tires every two years or 12K miles usually at 6/32 or less.

I just like new tires trying different brands, models etc.

I only meant to refer to "old oil" in the engine. Apologies for the confusion.

The first thing which tends to “go” with old tires is wet traction. If you use these old tires, which you shouldn’t, be REALLY careful in the rain.

Storage conditions definitely help (or hurt) the life of a tire, but the compounds do break down over time no matter how well they’re stored. It’s a totally different compound than engine hoses so that’s not a good comparison at all.

Particularly the stickier summer tires, the compounds that give them that grip do start to harden and break down over time. 5-6 years is my general rule of them but if I notice the performance (traction in particular, the wet traction as noted by someone else is a good one) starts to lessen, that’s usually my cue to start keeping an eye on the tires and start thinking about replacement.

8 year old summer tires, it’s time for new ones.

Replace. Learn from my mistake. I have a '72 Mach 1. Have BFG TA's on it. Tire had only 1k miles maybe, but over 10 yrs. old and always stored in garage. Steel belt let loose one day while I was doing 35 on city street. Really fucked up my fender......

Michelin recommends replacing tires 10 years from their date of manufacture, regardless of their apparent condition. Even if a tire shows no signs of wear or damage, the rubber compound can degrade over time, potentially leading to safety issues. Michelin also advises annual professional inspections of tires after 5 years of use

Just out of curiosity. Who here would trust the "professionals" opinion at just about any tire shop..

6 years at most on tires. The weird obsession (for some) of driving cars with original tires is dangerous to everyone. It’s quite easily the most obvious piece of the car that differentiates you seeing tomorrow. Just change the tires.

I love my tire guy. He runs an independent shop and will shoot me straight on what are good vs crap. He had been around the tire industry his entire professional career.
