I was looking at a 350R that is on the showroom at the dealer near me in Dallas, and the new car manager told me that the cup tires on the R's have a life expectancy of only 6000 miles. Have any of you R owners replaced your original tires yet, and if so what was your mileage and the condition of the tires?

And how much a set of them will set you back is another question.....

I really doubt the cup tires will last 6000 miles unless it doesn't include track. The Pilot Super Sports on my track package car were showing steel at 7,000 miles, and they have a 300 treadwear rating! I think the cup tires are like 100! Based on the cost and how many track days I got on them, I burn up $250 in tires alone each track day I run for the PSS. The Cup tires probably last half as long so figure double that

A set is roughly 2200 before tax. Longevity will be very dependent on how you drive it. Normal street driving without pushing them at all, I would expect to get 10-15k. If you start tracking the car, that is a completely different story and the life expectancy wanes quickly.

Just can't get enuff!
Cup 2's are 180 treadwear... in my Z06 it didn't last past 1000 miles. But then again that's pretty much all track wear. :D

Life expectancy on Cup 2's w/o track time but still with spirited driving is approximately 5k miles give or take so 6k isn't too far off. Just mosey along like Miss Daisy if you really want to stretch 'em out.... or sell the set (to me) and buy MPSS for the street.

On Tire Rack's site, they show $540 ea. on the front, and $562 ea. on the back. Of course that doesn't include delivery or installation.

Holy crap! I certainly didn't figure that in on the daily cost at the track!

Front brakes last 3 track days (depending on track) $200 online for pads, changing them yourself. Rear last about 6 days. Oil change at least every 3 or 4 track events = $120 DIY, $100 in fuel per day...so for a NON-R it's about $500 just in consumables PER DAY of track driving, or $1k per weekend...you get the picture. Then of course you have to buy the track time, travel expenses etc. Something to keep in mind if you budget any.

Consumables from track driving get very costly very quickly. With track fees and consumables you should figure the aggregate cost of a track day for this car will run you roughly 1k. Not a cheap hobby.

As far as wear goes, I had a pair of Hankook RS-3 rears on my GT500 that lasted roughly 12k and they had two track days on them. They have a 140 treadwear. They will last a bit with tame driving. Turn up the wick at all and they will dissipate quickly.

I have 6 track days on my GT350 R with 5000 km (3100 miles) and they are done. Driving on the street only would easily see 6000 miles or more as street driving would count for less than 10% wear in my case. The best times I've had with my car is at the track and worth every penny. I think that's reasonable given the performance and weight.

Agreed. Running a track car has its cost and 1k/day is something you can count on. But not to dissuade anyone foe going to the track - everyone should try it!

Anyone price a set of rotors for the car yet? With those funky attachments to the hat, I wonder if there will be any aftermarket source for them or maybe you just swap to a conventional floating rotor and hat setup? Any car this heavy and fast eats brakes, no way around it.

You guys that go to the track regularly - how often to you flush the brake fluid and what do you use for a replacement fluid?

Yep...they dun!

Cup 2's will not last long. Street driving, I could see 8K if you're not being nuts. Put it this way, if you do a few track days a season and you're DD'ing, pretty much expect to kill a set of tires every year conservatively. I'm getting RS3 V2's put on my TP car and that's basically what I've planned out.
