2017 gt350 with 11k miles. The tires are still original manufacture date 2017. Over 40% life left. Two people pointed out that I should get them replaced because of the cracks in the edges.
Should those tires be replaced or the tires should be good for another 2 years??. Thanks

Replace. I’ve read in more humid (normal) climates, tires are good for 6 years or so. In Phoenix AZ (very dry climate) 3-4 max.

Replace.

A previous thread of this topic involved a car which appeared to be very well cared for, but still on the original tires after 7+ years. The initial idea was they could be good for up to 10. But the overall consensus was any tire should be replaced after six years in service. While fine in appearance, the compounds degrade over time, losing their performance and ability to maintain integrity.

Cheap insurance to keep a great car at its best.

There is a reason manufacturers have to put dates on tires.

Don't use old tires or old oil.

Michelin told me 6 yrs is the tire life of their performance tires. You may see cracks on the outside, but inside the tires are degrading too. Don't be surprised when you change them, that there's lots of rubber dust within the tire.

Cracks in the sidewalls, yes replace for sure
Otherwise it really depends in how the tires/car are stored/garaged
Except for my daily driver.,all my vehicles are barely used and garaged inside
Last week i took 1 of my (ninja 1000) bikes for a mountain ride and the tires are about 10 years old old and the grip was as good as than a 2 years old tire
Same with my viper, just did a 1000 miles in norcal around hwy 96 and the tires are 12 years old. Grip like new tires
On the other hand, the tires on my race car trailer that is always parked outside, start to develop cracks after 4/5 years

Replace. My wife drives a VW Golf which I wash and detail regularly, including adding tyre gel for appearance every second wash. Recently I found large cracks on the two oldest tyres (Pirellis) which were 7 years old. The cracks must have appeared between washes as they were extremely obvious. This seems to indicate that they deteriorated very quickly from looking good to being dangerous.
Replaced immediately and the tyre tech said 7 years was the practical limit.

Do some research, some tire gel/dressing , if petroleum based, can damage tires if used often

There is this too. There are guidelines on when to replace but then there is also actual conditon and type of use, sort of like oil changes.

But having decade-old tires on performance vehicles perform like new, I've never been so lucky. When I've replaced tires that old there always was a big difference in feel. Lots of times the old tires looked ok but rubber so degraded they were destroyed by the dismounting process.

Very similar to my last tire change, from normal looking to dry rot between the tread blocks.

I've also found around 7 years is the longest I've voluntarily held off.

So in my bike example, i have 2 same ninja 1000. A blue and a red, both with the same tire model
One weekend i took the blue, with a 2 years old tire on the sierra pass ( hwy 4 then 108) and i took the red with the 10 years old tire the following weekend on the same route
Couldn’t feel any difference in handling between the 2 bikes
And btw, i’m a fast rider, no chicken strips

Frankly i was also surprised on how much grip the tires still had on the Viper

Storage and climate have a lot to do with it IMO.
