It’s not about the carb gas mileage, that part is irrelevant, but about the conspiracy theory that car manufacturers jumped in to kill the “invention “
As i said if a patent application was ever filed, as the guy stated, we can access it
This types of conspiracy theories about carbs being so good that car manufacturers want to kill them , have been going around for ever…. And some people even believe it…. Well, maybe not that surprising if they are members of the Flat Earth Society….
And believing that conspiracy theory is even more stupid if you consider that it would be the oil companies and not the car manufacturers that could be hurt by such “invention “
Maybve true but telling
It can until it hits the limits of physics.
Let me ask you this question..
If I had offered to bet you $500 in 1970 a small block Mustang on small slicks would run low 8's in the QTR mile would you have taken it?

If your older and remember prostock cars cars were running in the 10's you would have called me NUTS and took the bet but factory stock showdown cars are doing that today.

Point is technology is changing :)

Technology changes, "Laws of physics" do not.
Maybe I will end with maybe its what we know about the laws of Physics today :)
I am sure they would have said in 1970 " Its physically impossible to go 8 seconds in a car especially with a small slick"

I am 60 and blown away at how cars have changed..

All good, one day people won't believe we drove to gas stations and had to put fuel in our cars.

It takes x amount of energy to move a mass a distance. This law will never change? or at least it hasn't yet.

So to make the 100 Mpg carb work it would need to atomize fuel better than current DI.

Smokey tried his hand at 100 Mpg carbs and he claimed it worked. Called it the hot vapor cycle engine? Anyway at least one engine still exists but no one can make it run properly. Last I heard anyway.

and cow farts killing the ozone layer! Oh dear, can't we put Beano in their feed?
actually I just learned the other day that you need to put Konbu (kelp) in their water and the enzymes react with the bacteria to reduce methane production. It's why Japanese though they eat a lot of beans, aren't constantly farting. It's the Konbu that tamps down that bio-reaction.

My mind is still that of a 10 year old sometimes, but the after effects of eating said beans is part of the overall dining experience 🤣

That might be true, but nuclear still creates another environment hazard. I used to work at a nuclear plant in Eastern PA.
So I have a bit more incite than a Google search.

I know steam technology has basically vanished but my goodness what an efficient way to move $hit around. Big Boy came through my area a few weeks back, there were crowds up and down the rail line to see it. The last surviving locomotive of its class, pretty cool how much this thing was designed haul almost 85 years ago. Not sure how on or off topic this is but who cares. It’s cool.

yeah but would you like to be strangled by your hand strap when you let loose a cloud in the packed cheek by jowl commuter train?

Back in the early 80s there was an individual in Cocoa, FL that was experimenting with a 240ci straight 6 in a ford mustang with a carb of his own design that was getting average 80 MPG out of it at 70 mph highway and 70 around town. He had tested it for over 2 years, it was not quick to get up to speed but would keep up with normal traffic. When he got ready and applied for a patent on it and big auto got wind, they quickly put the legal screws to him, and it never saw the light of day. We should have had cars getting those MPG numbers long ago, but corporate greed will never allow it.

We are fighting a losing battle in terms of clean air for the world until we can make China get on board with any/all efforts to reduce emissions, they don't care and never will unless made to do so by the rest of the world. Just wasting money otherwise.

Obviously I believe you are older than I am due to the context of this story. I could be wrong.

But I have been hearing some version of this story since the day I can remember anything to do with cars. Its not always some magic carb. Rotary engines have been brought up about a million times.

As a business owner personally believe you all have this backwards. If I got wiff of something this game changing in my industry I would absolutely try to go out and find it. But there is no fucking way I am shelving a 100 MPG carb because of a check Exxon can write me. They are ultra wealthy. But do you all have any idea what a car company would be worth if they had a car that could triple everyone else's gas mileage? Not only would you be able to capitalize on the technology on your cars you would also be able to lease this tech to all of the big car makers for MASSIVE money. It would literally be market changing profit all the way around.

I hardly believe that someone shelved a trillion dollar part. Ever. Money talks and the first person to invent something like that would have made the next Tesla and the oil hush money would be a non issue. Patent it so nobody else could steal it and you would be a billionaire overnight.

Markets do drive markets. But advances that are worth that kind of money are not swept under the rug so Shell can keep making oil. They could even be so bad as to only put this carb in higher dollar cars to force the "normal" people like ourselves to buy less efficient cars.
