Regarding the throttle bump, that's not true. Both my S197 didn't have it, 03 Mustang did not have it. This was the only car were I noticed giving it throttle which I found pretty neat.
You are likely right regarding a 'bump' with clutch release but I am speaking more of the idle stabilization or idle control valve that will maintain a steady idle under load be it a soft release of the clutch, AC, etc.

Unpopular opinion/approach:

I've owned the car for 9 years now, I've used hill hold maybe 3 times.
Unless the hill is so steep I'm basically looking at the clouds looking straight forward, i don't use hill hold.

What i do is simply "slip" the clutch with the perfect amount of gas and clutch out so that the engine doesn't stall and the car doesn't roll back any. When light turns green just simply let out of clutch more, and the car goes forward like an automatic.
here's my clutch with 60k miles:

Slipping the clutch while waiting for the light is terrible. Seems like that pressure plate looks glazed I bet you had clutch chatter. Sure it can be done but why burn your clutch like that? Slipping it like that creates glazing that may increase chances of chatter and wear. Just keep it in neutral and engage and take off like normal when you need to take off. My S197 got to 130K miles with original clutch with plenty of abuse, I bet if I did this it would have been fried by 100K.

Turned the hill start assist off the 2nd day of owning the car but use the anti stall all the time. I hardly ever use the throttle when backing out of my garage or taking off when leaving the house. No need for throttle with a quarter mile of gravel driveway ahead of you. I have a small incline coming off the main road back into my driveway. I usually put it in 2nd gear and the anti stall will just chug right up over it with no throttle required.

The pressure plate, i can assure you was glazed by track days and the supercharger on a track day when the clutch was already letting go after supercharging.
But this is why i started my post with ' unpopular opinion' 🤣

Whatever works for you right? lol. Technically it should not be done but each to his own. I just make a mental picture of the clutch burning up in there as I slip it for longer than usual haha

Yeah I like to use just the clutch to slowly back out of the garage.

Never clutch only. Always gas it. Takes forever to take off with just the clutch and burns the hell out of it doing that on a hill.
41k miles of never using throttle from a stop including hills and at least 10 track days. Does not burn the hell out of the clutch

I’m thinking of the one hill I have issues with. I can smell the clutch if I slip it until the car moves on that hill. On normal hills I can’t say I’ve ever paid attention to it. Probably taken off plenty without using the gas.

more important question for you, how the hell are you so patient to wait for the car to get moving without throttle input 😂

My patience stems from not wanting to deal with mt82 problems 😂

Well that makes me feel better about my 30k miles of doing it like that, lol.

I realized I do gas it on steep hills so that I'm not slipping it too much. I've never smelled clutch in my case on a hill start. I think the reason the hill hold was sucking was because I was doing the two feet method of going straight to the bite. The car wants you to gas it good first and then go for the bite I guess.

Honestly these cars are fat porkers and roll back so damn quick it gives me anxiety 😂

You guys are weird. No throttle when moving from a stop ? How do you display your dominance to the inferior automobilia then ?

BTW. love hill assist.

Lol from a stop is fine, its not a major load/rpm on it. Kind of slow though I only do it when I need to creep forward or slowly back out. But I personally would no fry it by slipping to hold it on a hill, at red light or prolong slippage at a high rpm/high load scenario.

I like the hill assist in this car, works great for me. I have noticed that if I have the AC on it's a little harder for me to overcome the hill "hold" and take off smoothly...

Oddly I just tried the ole "let clutch out super slow and you can go without gas" the other day

boy we've come along way. I always knew you could let clutch out a little for some light movement but sheesh

I wish we had this 25 years ago when I was learning not now on the brink of the manual's extinction

I guess I’m using hill assist. I just take my foot off the brake, let the clutch out and accelerate. I guess the assist holds me in place between the time I release the brake and get on the accelerator. On the flat, most times I blip the accelerator, then let out the clutch. Really old school.
