Mine is Under the mirror using a blendmount type of bracket with mirror tap, and the best way to go.
I have the same exact set up. Works great. Not real noticeable.

Valentine V1 with mirror tap for power. I have the safe & sound package so I have it tucked up high on the passenger side. It’s completely out of the way and still easy to reach. I have a blendmount as well but prefer using the suction cup mount and having it out of my line of sight.

Between mirror and headliner is the cleanest mounting IMO and keeps it out of sight.
Could you share a picture. I haven't bought any RD yet, but can't visualize one fitting neatly above the mirror and yet have an unobstructed view of the rear (for detectors that have antennas facing both front and rear).

lol until they tell you to roll down your window. :)

I would try to put it behind the rear view mirror instead so you can't see it. That way any cops that stop you won't see it either.

@nrm101 Can I ask where you got the stl file? been looking for this.
Sry just seeing this now, i created the stl myself, i'll see if i can dig it out, also pla+ doesn't work well for this, use ABS, i have a black car and the heat, mixed with the pressure holding the radar the pla+ failed

Mine is just above the dash displayed proudly. Keeps them honest. Everyone says to hang it higher but a cop has never surprised me. I always detect them a a long ways off. of course the State Cops here don't use radar a lot but instead will pace you at times so then nothing helps you if you don't see them.

I have it under the mirror (with hardly any gap) with the best available bracket from BlendMount, and flush with the front of the mirror with a piece of rubber between the V1 and the tab to release (otherwise you'd have to slide it all the way in), and hooked up to the mirror cable from behind with a fully-reversible MirrorTap cable. Looks OEM.

I just hang the Valentine on the windshield. Could care less if it is hidden....

Can a cop know if one is using a radar detector without checking the car?

I highly doubt it. They’d just see your speed go from 1xx to 65mph ;)

In our police state country, the penalty for using a radar detector is $1700 and 9 demerit points (at 12 points you lose your drivers license). It takes 3 years to get the demerit points taken away...

And now they've just authorised unmarked cars for use as mobile speed cameras.

No more enjoying the rush of a spirited drive in my 5.0 😭

Radar detectors are somewhat helpful but most helpful on road trips. X band is the electronic door from shopping malls. K band are traffic lights but 1 percent chance a cop. Laser is a cop with a speed gun hope that you have parking sensors mounted on your plates (laser jammers), or he's checking the cars ahead. The most serious signal of them is KA always going off near Mullohand Hwy and near the canyons in Malibu. KA is CHP highway patrol, or State Trooper. If a KA goes off it is 100 percent real always. But cops cruise at 90mph on the highway to catch speeders. So if you're gonna speed make sure you're doing much more than that so you don't get caught from behind.
