And if you are doing that, it would probably be better to get a high-stall converter.

I have a manual...

Did ford download the tune from the website or did you have to download it then give it the the mechanic to load it on to the car?
They did everything, then gave me the tuner with the original tune in it.

I was starting to see 40+° F idle IAT temps when sitting for a bit so I made some slight, inelegant, modifications and, pending more seat time, looks like I got that reduced to nearly an even 20° F IAT increase from ambient. The caveat is that my moving IAT temps seem to be about 1/2° higher than before.

What did you do to help it out?

My FRPP2 kit on my 16' runs lean on heavy throttle input. I have deemed the kit unsafe and will resort back to stock. Good luck to you guys with the 18+ kits.
The temp skyrocketed here the last few days. It's almost 90° out. IATs still seem to stay within 4° when moving but if I'm stopped for a while the temps definitely climb a fair bit. I think I hit 130° today. The tune is definitely very dependent on the quality of gas and temperature. 93 e10 would be the best from a pump, especially during the summer. I just dumped in 4 galons of e50/e85 (says it's within that range) to help a bit.

Another recommendation I have is to make sure advanced traction control is off. Even with the stock tune, this made a noticeable difference in the low end torque. It just doesn't give it to you. Although, if you do, make sure your tires are warmed up or you'll lose the rear end real quick.

I did take it out two nights ago when it was a bit colder and first gear, especially, is insanely fun. There's absolutely no hesitation like the stock tune. Some kids in a modded wrx chased me down (they actually followed me for quite a while). You know the type, bigger turbo, decals everywhere, rap music blasting... passenger yelled out the window that he wants me to tell him if I like the new tail lights at the next light and I just smiled. That poor little thing was obliterated. We got to the next light and the windows roll up LOL. Before the tune I know I would've lost off the line and had to quickly play catch up. That lag being gone is so nice.

I have a 16' with the stage 2 kit. I have also found this tune ( for my model year) is VERY temperamental to air temp, humidity and fuel. I had issues with detonation and added some octane booster. Just enough to see if it would help and it appears to have. I do not want to run octane booster constantly due to the mmt. I have an e85 station up the road and wanted to try 2 gallons to a tank to help with pinging because all we have is 91 octane. Ford in my opinion is WAY to aggressive with timing under this octane rating.

Have you had any issues with running lean with the kit? I noticed at hard acceleration with stock tune I would be at 12.5-12.8 AF which is perfect. With the kit it is at 14. That air fuel ratio is where I am on the freeway just cruising. That is very concerning to me. I don't know if its a tune issue or a injector issue.

Dfeeds,

Would like to see what you have done as well. I fixed the FRPP supplied air inlet box assembly so it would fit (was solvent welded at the wrong angle) and not sure I can tell a difference from my modified to fit stock air box.

IAT's do climb really fast at idle with the FRPP air box.

I didn't do anything elegant. I used some of the foam insulating tape to block off the gaps in the cover that face the engine. Then I bought 6' of pipe shaped insulation (not tape), cut it up, and stuffed it into the gap that the supplied foam piece is supposed to block.

I had to make a 2 hour trip today and if I sat for 10 minutes it would get to around 30° above ambient still. My driving IAT, despite my initial observation, dropped to as low as 3° above ambient and in regular driving stayed a lot cooler than before. I'm sure if there was some effort and not the $5 thrown together set up I did it could be better.

I'll take a picture tomorrow. Dealing with the riots at the moment.

I feel the kit gets better with more driving/mileage. Went crusing tonight, I am really feeling the pulls down low and I really enjoy the kit. I am glad i purchased makes me want to drive more. My AITs do increase significantly at a long stop light. But they cool down while driving. Not to worried about it. Might also check the gaps in the air box tomorrow. See what I can do.

Just wanted to report back with my 1st track outing after installing the kit. My previous best time was 12.18 @ 115. Tonight I ran a best of 11.93 @ 117. I still have some shake in the 1-2 shift but overall it feels better than it did before. The 2-3 shift was like a serious push. Every run thus far has been very similar in track temps and prep. All runs made on PS4’s in the low 20 psi range. When the car was bone stock it all started with a 12.48 pass. I can say that this kit for sure picked up 2 tenths in the quarter and a couple mph. I feel like it had a 11.8 in it but I didn’t want to wait another 2 hours to possibly get another pass in. The low end pick up on the drive there is very noticeable especially on the highway. My next plan is put on some radials and see how it does.

Get that 60ft down and bet you'll get in the 11.8s. The better tire will help. I take it this is a non drive mode car?

100% agree. The car needs to learn the tune. Also, there's options on the handheld programmer to clear the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) and the fuel memory which the tech instructed me to do because the tune does not overwrite the original fuel strategy. I cleared the KAM the day after installation and that seemed to help the car settle into the tune better.

KAM reset comes in handy in general when swìtching fuel types or wanting to erase a bad tank lol. Often used with flex tunes if wanting to switch e content and force relearn faster.

I was getting some slight pinging on heavy throttle the first day I had the kit, so I spoke to the Ford tech and he suggested clearing the KAM. Haven't had any pinging since.
