i have to disagree. seems to me this only shows what a driver mod can do as that silver gt seemed to struggle a bit on his shifts imo
Ok fair enough but ... I disagree cause it was pretty dam close. All the PP guys here make it sound like your car is a dog unless it has 3.73 gears but this video shows differant. I was kinda interested in putting 3.73 gears in mine or at least revisit driving one but now I have no interest. I'll stick with my 3.31 gears but ... there both good IMO.

i should have put in one of these :headbang: as i was joking. gearing wise the two dont seem to be that off from each other but im not invested in either so its all good

i agree its the purest way to go slower in the 1/4 mile!
FOR ME, I do think the automatic will bring more enjoyment. I certainly miss pushing in the clutch and giving revs and giving a nice launch with a stick though. What I have grown to enjoy especially when driving around more normally instead of racing it, is the nice, very quick solid shift of an auto where you feel the pull shift pull. Driving normally I always tend to shift slowly. And even during a spirited run thru my back roads the paddle shifters work very good. Plus I do want a car my wife and daughter will occasionally drive.

The 3.73 gears make a big difference in gear vs. gear. (apples to apples comparison)
ie: if you're both starting from a stand still in 1st gear, the 3.73's will give you better acceleration.
The faster you go the less of an advantage the 3.73 gear will have.

Apples to Apples. 3.31 vs. 3.55. vs 3.73 (all manual), the higher gear cars should be faster.

You throw in another variable like Automatic transmission and you've got a different race.
You throw in a rolling start at 40mph, the 3.73 gear car might have started out in 3rd gear, where the 3.31 gear car may have been in 2nd.

Good driver vs. bad driver (shifter)... who knows.

Anyway, all kinds of variables that could skew the results.

3.73 gearing will make the car pull harder and definitely feel faster. But personally after owning a 3.73 PP car, I kind of wish I had a 3.55 gear car. For the same price I could have gotten a Cali Edition or Black Edition, 3.55 gears, Ruby Red, which also looks great.

I drove a 3.55 manual vs. 3.15 auto back to back and the manual felt so much faster. Then again I didn't run a scientific timed test of the 2. But it made me want 3.55 or higher gears.

If you put drag radials on a 3.73 geared car on a prep surface, it should walk away from all other manual equipped mustangs till the end of fifth gear (150 mph range). On a roll depends on what mph and rpm you are starting the race at.

Isn't the PP slower in the 1/4 mile though? Since there's an extra shift (into 4th?) that the other geared cars would not have to do to keep pulling.

I opted for 3.55 gears. Base GT's are meant to be modded to the gills. If you don't plan to do any mods, get the PP.
This, my non pp gt was a turd handling wise until I put coilovers on it and upgraded the rubber.

I actually do plan to mods over the years. About the only mods I would not be doing any time soon would be motor warranty issues. The price to replace a coyote motor is crazy. I would like to do as much handling wise over the years as the budget would allow. My ecoboost has the Ford Racing suspension package and I was surprised how well this handles compared to my audi tts actually. My braking could be a little better after a few hard slow downs. The main reason for the thought of a base model is because the gap between my premium Ecoboost to the same car but a GT is at least 10000. A base would be less and I think the only things I really will miss are the seats and the radio. Both could be upgraded later if I wanted.

There is no such thing as a driver mod in a roll race.

Why wouldn't there be? If there's an edge to be had through technique, why would you not use it?

Drag racing is not what PP cars are for. Drag "racing" is only 1/3rd of racing.:tsk::tsk:

I think like most said you didn't drive it in the proper power band. Furthermore, you didn't drive a GT/PP. Night and day difference the 3.73 gearing makes not to mention a manual. Heck, my GT/PP is my daily driver and around town or on freeway it is about has complacent has any car can be. Cut her loose on a back country road it is another story all together. Mine is a 2015 btw. Here is an example. I live outside Sacramento. We took our GT/PP to Las Vegas. Spent a couple days there then cross state line over to LA. Another couple days driving around there and hanging out then made the drive back home to Sacramento. Smooth drive. Decent gas mileage. Cabin was quite. Recaro seats comfortable. Prior to this car I did a similar trip in my Lexus IS300. Honestly, my Mustang is just as quite and comfortable on the long haul. Taking it the other way on the few occasions whereas we opened her up and cut her loose while driving in some areas in the Mojave desert she was another beast all together.

It really is a great car to say the least. Comfort and tame until you reach that sweet spot. Then it becomes intense but still extremely balanced. Ford did a great job and I can't wait to get my first track event in where it is the proper place.

Can't say it is slower - then again, I don't drag mine.

But...it should be noted it is a package designed for road racing, not drag. Staggered tires, 6 piston / brembo brakes, different rotors (I think), strut bar and torsen. Oh, 3.73 gears. But I'll let the experts here clarify.
