So back a couple months ago I took my MACh1 in to the dealer as I had got the dreaded every safety feature light warning on the dash. Diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing/tone ring. It to them two tries to get the right wheel bearing/hub in to replace. When finished the gave me the car back and told me that the attaching bolts for the wheel bearing/hub didn't come with their parts order and were not available and on nation backorder. They would call me when they were available, and that Ford ok'd them to use the original bolts with Loctite to reassemble.

I talked with the service writer a couple weeks back to schedule the brake fluid light recall and reminded them there was an open ticket on my car for the replacement bolts. They sent the mobile guy out the next day to re-flash and take care of the recall. That part went flawless, and the tech even installed new wiper blades free of charge. I asked the mobile tech about the wheel bearing/hub bolt ticket, and he said they needed to do that at the dealership...... cool! He called the service manager and scheduled my MACh1 in this am to get this completed.

I wake up at o'buttcrack this morning to have the car there first thing when they open..... cool they take the car back offer me coffee and donuts and say it'll be less than a couple hours. They didn't have any loaners but offered me porter service if I wanted....cool. I sat in their customer lounge drinking coffee....eating donuts and watching Superbowl/Swift highlights etc. 1 1/2 hours later the service writer comes back and tells me they can't complete the repair because the bolts ordered are not correct and that the parts manager is on the phone with Ford. We go back to parts and the manager shows me the bolts and part # then shows me on the computer the listing. They are what's listed in Ford's parts system for 2022 MACh1's.

So, they put my car together re-using the now 3 times used single use bolts. Ford has opened a COPIS report with Ford Parts. Has anyone else run into this problem??? I know it's a parts bin car but WTF???? :lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed:

Shitty service no doubt, but it will be fine as long as they cleaned off the the thread locker and re-applied new stuff. The bolts aren't torque to yield, Ford just wants them to be replaced every time due to the thread locker on them.

hmm, got *correct* part numbers?

Whenever I scrounge thru parts.ford.com and the like I marvel at how USELESS the descriptions are and how very low quality the experience is. I'm sure parts counters have internal software that isn't quite as useless, but it struck me that the parts system was a total half-assed sh*tshow that some HS drop-out maintains on his summer vacation.

Not really shitty service.... I'm really happy with their service and coming from Mercedes Benz service that's saying something for Ford service. The service writer and tech are friendly and treat my car as if it is Italian. Every time I've been there they are using pinch weld pads and the whole frontend is covered when the hood is up.

I feel your pain. Took 7 days for my dealer to diagnose/order/replace the wheel bearings. No loaner so I had to leave the car for the 7 days.. I didn’t realize that associated bolts were one time use only. When I ordered an extra axle nut, it was automatically changed to a different number. Looks like some parts swapping is at play. Bearings seem to be a common problem with the 550.

I am actually really impressed with how well the dealership took care of you while you were there... free coffee and donuts... free windshield wipers and they came to you to fix the brake problem. That's really impressive. It stinks that they couldn't get the correct bolts, but as they say "sh*t happens". As others have said, these bolts aren't going to fail any time soon, and you can either stick with it until you get new ones or call it good and stick with what you have. Good luck, amigo!

Was it ever?
I truly believe that it was better 20ish years ago. The new Fords I bought then were better overall than what I have today.

Even my '15 Mustang is better than my '19 F150, which has been my worst Ford vehicle to date.

I tried to use the dealership near me for a while, new car and a bunch of ford pass points, but they screwed my car up twice costing me $1800 of my own money even with my 100K unlimited warranty. I now have a race prep shop do all of my work. Its a shame really, most of the service advisors do want to have good work done, but the dealerships are hiring B level techs with oil change experience and throwing them into full engine out jobs. I hope it changes:please:

I had the same problem with my front hub. But I used ARP extended studs because I change up wheels (Apex) when on track.

Seems to me any bolt that has loctite is flagged as one time use now per service manual. Must not trust the techs to reapply loctite properly. I have no issues reapplying blue loctite and reusing at specified torque.

...and yes, the Mach1's are a part number nightmare. Many unique parts got overlooked in the service part set up process and lumped in with base usage.

As others have pointed out, the only reason Ford listed them as throw away is the pre-application of locker that comes on the threads. They're not torque to yield, if they were, you'd generally have installation instructions that call for a torque then an additional rotation beyond that. They're perfectly fine to re-use. Just use the appropriate thread locker on them and torque to proper settings.

I will say that unless you do them from the factory, getting a proper torque value on one of them can be challenging because you can't get to them without using extensions and swivels. That may also be why Ford chose to label them as one use only (in combination of the factory applied locker).
