How are you guys getting away without installing an OPG? One of the vendors on here who sells the OPG is saying 450whp is the fine line where the OPG is needed. Tell me it isn't just one big infocomercial.

you sort of did just answer your own question. nothing wrong with that vendor, but would you trust a shoe salesman to tell you that your shoes are broken? always do your own research.

there are numerous cars running at higher power levels on stock motor just fine. and there are some who have broken at those power levels.

why did i do OPG/TG? peace of mind. cheap insurance. they were already deep in the motor anyways, why pay for work twice?

no one is saying your car will break at 451whp. no one is also saying that at 450whp you can beat on it all day long and GUARANTEED it wont break.

cost/benefit analysis. risk/reward. all things that should play into your decision when modifying ANYTHING.

i always tell people when they call.

"1/2 the people do them, 1/2 don't

if you have the time and $$, it's definitely not going to hurt anything to do them"

and i leave it up to the customer

I'm at 625rwhp and all good, 6k+ miles later. I don't drag the car but it really never gets babied either. I have done some track events and such but on Perelli's and Michelin's no stickies. All else is stock shafts gears and chain.
I never bought the insurance, just figured I'd upgrade as I broke stuff. Nothing will break for me!!

I had to go back and check your location to make sure you weren't up in Alaska or Antartica. Can only image it gets plenty hot down in TX. Nice to hear feedback that you have no problems without the fans. Sorry but have to ask you have a Whipple right? You know Internet and all I have to ask. Lol.
Yes, I have a whipple kit with upgraded TB. Intercooler pump is the normal flow and no fans.

The intercooler on these cars is big enough that its more than enough to keep IATs under control. In addition, those fans actually impair cooling ability at higher speed since they block flow. Finally, they're noisy as hell.

I'm driving around Dallas in 103 degree temperatures running a 3.625" pulley and pump 93 without an issue. Car has plenty of power. The only mod I recommend after the whipple is a set of drag radials.

Everything else yields very little return in horsepower for dollar. I been down that road before with a whipple car and it got me another 3mph trap speed but with a stinky, wake the dead loud exhaust, horrible gas mileage and significantly lighter wallet.

Or go with a beefcake Paxton kit for literally half the price, make very similar power and still have 4K left over for cosmetic mods.

I think it's crazy that the whipple is so expensive and apparently makes a lot of power on the dyno with the supplied 11psi but o haven't really seen them perform as good as centri's or VMP blowers at the track
^ Finally... :first:

Thanks for all the response! I think I would be disappointed if I didn't spend the money on something that returned HP. I was looking at a sweet set of Ferrada rims and tires but I just can't give up my stock 20's, best OEM rims I've seen in a while. Was gonna do breaks and rotors but really, what's the point. Yeah they would work better and look sweet.Super charger it is, now I just need to finish saving.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Hoping the OP can use the info as well. Hope you don't mind another question. You mention "stinky", does that mean you kept the OEM Cats? I'm thinking that's what you meant. I'm new to FI, sounds like you aren't. If you kept your factory cats, do you expect them to last a good long time, or what are your thoughts on factory cats and FI? I only ask because I want to keep my ride legit for our smog testing. Been told by Whipple that it's all good, just love as much input as I can get from users.

Stinky because I went with aftermarket hi-flow cats. It was actually a bassani hi-flow x pipe if you're curious. This was on a 2003 mach 1 that I had swapped the entire drive train out of an 2003 cobra. The motor was fully built, custom cams, full exhaust, etc with a whipple. It was fast as hell but also woke up the dead when I got on it and really stunk at idle. What I learned in that endeavor was cams are a waste of money and destroy your gas mileage, hi-flow or no cats makes you smell like exhaust if the windows are down and the biggest power gains I got was when I did a pulley swap with race gas.

Regarding your question on oem cat life, I'm not sure how much life I'll get out of the factory cats but if they fail, I shouldn't have a problem finding someone selling their factory setup off their car or a visit to boneyard.

There is some older postings on here with people quoting different numbers, such as 600whp. The aftermarket OPG and sprocket sound like a good idea, but there doesn't seem to be many failures of the stock parts, at least on the S550 and posted to M6G. If there is a few failures, that can easily be factory defects. Its hard to imagine Roush and Whipple offering warranty if there was high odds of a payout.

I thought the same thing. It's definitely hot in Texas, particularly in afternoon rush hour traffic. CHT on my (NA) car easily get over 220F just waiting at stop lights.

Whipple has special consideration in thier calibration for catalitic converters so you don't burn them out.

I'm running Stainless Works LT headers without cats, does that mean they bump the tune up some?
Another question... Can you still get Whipple tune (without flash tool) and load through nGauge? Not sure 100% if I would use Lund tune or Whipple. Definitely want flight control

no, the whipple tune is done through their device. there is no bump for catless. their tune is 50 state legal. however you may and will make more power because the backpressure difference. also may get a little more power because the tune still uses knock and cht to add and pull timing. catless header should get the heat away from engine faster

i have stage 2 with fans,132tb,72lb injectors, and a catback im guessing from many others thatim in the 725 whp area.
the guys ive talked to with headers are in the 765 whp area
