Try a different brand of oil and use 5W-30
Do you know if there is any oil brand in terms of 5W-30 that does the trick in terms of the tick generaly for people?

You want something with boron and moly in it as that's what ceratec adds

It's interesting that its :

A) Appeared on a pre facelift - yes I know it's claimed its always been there even on older generations, but the facelifts do seem to get the finger pointed at them the most.

B) Appeared on a euro - the problem seems much less talked about over here, with some even claiming the 'euro' spec oils are better and have more of the additives in them that help to minimise the tick.

OP has recently changed their oil (to Yacco), I think that's where I would be starting.

@ OP - With regards to adding Ceratec, if you aren't happy just chucking a full bottle in, I would just start with a quarter bottle, and just keep adding (upto Ceratec's guidelines) until the tick shuts itself up to a level you are happy with. I've seen one video on YouTube where the user added it pretty much as he was live filming, and the effect was almost instant.

Before adding Ceratec , should you remove a quart of oil?

Trust your dipstick - if it's on max (or it will be over max after the addition), then yes :like:

One bottle is 300ml (approx a third of a quart ?)

Hello, what do you mean by OP please?

I have just changed my oil to Yacco 5W-20 as I read and heard good things in terms of the tick.
Currently have 50 kms on this new oil and waiting if it stops by itself or I will need to add Ceratec.

You think Yacco oil might help on itself after some kms?

My 18 developed the typewriter tick on the original fill with about 3500mi on the car. Swapped to 5w-30 Mobil 1 and got a lot of ticking, which 1 bottle of Ceratec solved. Tried Castrol Edge 5w-30 and got same results. Lastly been running Penzoil UP 5w-30 for several oil changes...least amount of ticking but it is still there. One bottle of Ceratec always makes engine quiet. Currently at 68.5K with no issues. Oh, I always change my oil by the MIL light. Usually every 9-10K miles. You have a 10qt capacity or 2.5 gallons, twice the capacity of what cars used to run with 5-6K oil change interval.
