I have 2 track days I wanna do this year and my work commute is 8 miles per day. May be a good option.
Be careful. 3R's have terrible grip when cold. They really should be marketed as track-only

Yep. And you're not even supposed to store them in sub-freezing temps. I reached out to Goodyear to inquire about storing them in an unheated space (during Chicago winters). They advised against it. So to the basement they went!

Although Shadow277 is in AZ...that helps a bit.

It's getting to be mid 80s where I live and soon to be over 100. If the tires wear out during the summer then I won't be sad.

They probably don't advertise it being track only because I have a feeling that street tires make most of their money.

I think this needs to be shared...

I looked at this table probably 20 times so far, it's getting close to analysis paralysis

I cannot make sense from some of the data points either, for example rival S has 3 times better wear rating than rival s 1.5, how does that make sense? It's hard to translate all those A's and B's to real life experience. What I can deduct from it is that Kumho is the best super 200tw for hpde, which is quite surprising.

I know that RS-4 are exactly what I need, but they are nowhere to be found at a reasonable price. And the table is missing Federals, which are the most reasonably priced so far... decisions, decisions..

The table is close but wrong by my account - in a couple of spots, buuut. Just pick one and try it, next time you can re-up or pick another.

Falken RT660 is a good one. Lots of those in the grid at CotA HPDE a week or two ago. Lifes too short to run endurance compound tires :). Buy a Miata if you want to save money on consumables.

Yeah, I'll probably end up just picking one once it gets closer to an actual event. It was +5 F and snowing outside my window just yesterday, so I still have some time 🥶

Interesting opinion on endurance compounds, thanks for sharing. I'll give it some thought. Oh, and getting GT86 is high on my list as next daily beater 😁

But do the last more than 2 laps? Re71 has fantastic performance but only for 2 miles which makes it useless for lapping.

Track sessions are too short not to fully flog the entire seven laps.

Rival S 1.5 is a much faster tire and therefore wears faster. The non-1.5 has a harder compound...slower but lasts longer. That all adds up just fine.

The letter grade is just a comparison between tires. So a tire with a wear rating A is going to last longer than a B tire and so forth.
