I’m getting my windows tinted soon, and I’m debating between 20% and 35%. 35 looks nice, but 20 looks better aesthetically to me.

my only hesitation with 20% is seeing at night (and parallel street parking, or in parking garages). i do have good vision, but has anyone struggled with seeing at night? i don’t often drive rural country roads because i live in a major metropolitan area.

i won’t be doing the windshield, but what is the rear window tinted to from factory? if i get 20% on the sides and rear would that be too dark to see out of, considering i have an auto dimming mirror? should i do 20 on the sides and 35 on the rear? and is looking out the back window a challenge with the extra 20% tint? i’ve never gotten a car tinted before.

20 all day :) I have always done 20. Looks the best IMHO, and I can see pretty good with my old tired eyes. I made the mistake of doing 5% on my 22 GT and it was too dark :) But, 35 does look pretty good, if you are going to have legality issues...

20% tint on mine, no tint on windshield..

Looks great!!! Did you get 20% on the rear window as well? Was that hard to see through with the auto dimming mirror?

20% is too dark at night imo. I have it on the rear window and 35% on the sides. 35% is perfect

I do 35 on the sides and 20 on the back glass. It’s just enough that if you do a lot of night driving without street lamps 20 is a pain in the ass.

I agree with this. 20% on mine, and it's really only an issue in low-light situations for me in areas I'm not familiar with. Not sure if that applies to you and your situation, but it's something to consider. 32% is the legal limit on front side windows here (wife's car has this) and it causes me fewer concerns in the same conditions.

Another vote for (15% -) 20% if you’re not worried about police attention in your state or area.

Here’s some different angles and lighting.

Yeah both 20 and 35 are illegal here, so might as well go with whichever one I decide on haha

Nice!! Any issues with visibility? Did you also get your rear window tinted 20%? Is that harder to see out of with the auto dimming mirror?

I went 20% all around (sides and rear) and whilst dark to see through at night, not impossible. No regrets whatsoever 😎

Most factory tint is between 85 and 80%.

Across my entire windshield, I'm using 70% (illegal in my state) ceramic. In most states, it's legal to install anything you want, from the top, then down to the "ASI" line.

On the sides and back, I have 30% (legal) ceramic.

The ceramic will shield you from UV rays and prevent a lot of the heat from entering. They do make 80 and 90% ceramic for windshields. With all the windows tinted and a black interior, no one can tell my windshield is covered.

I do not have any issues with sighting at night. I do wear prescription, polarized lenses.

Never been pulled over or questioned on tint. In my area, there are a lot of illegal installs. It's tolerated, to a point. People putting limo tint all-around (LOL) are usually pulled over. YMMV.

Being in the NE, if I only have to options, I'd gravitate to 35%. You have less direct light than other locations. At night, it should be easier to see. If you have concerns, I always recommend getting a junk piece from a shop; stick it somewhere on the glass and drive around for a few days.

Good Luck. :please:Show us what you got once installed.

Yes, 20 all around. It works fantastic. Ceramic tint as well so heat rejection is on point too...

I have 20%. Factory “tint” for SUV’s and other cars that come tinted from factory is 20%, although it’s dyed glass and not actual tint film. I did not tint my front windshield, visibility out of the sides and rear isn’t an issue. As others have said, go with ceramic tint.
