My state law day 35 and no tint on windshield check your state law20% is too dark at night imo. I have it on the rear window and 35% on the sides. 35% is perfect
Ps here's more info on Maryland lawIāll be the outlier and say whatever is legal in your area! once you are on the radar of the local po-po, itās game over, he will pull you over every dam timeā¦ask me how I know, and why my tint is now legal![]()
Thereās some guy around here driving an old Honda CRX slammed to ground on horribly stretched tires that sounds like my weed wacker on steroids, that has reflective tint all the way around (not legal here and would assume not legal anywhere). How he hasnāt been busted yet is beyond me, and Iāve seen several cops drive right past him.Iāll be the outlier and say whatever is legal in your area! once you are on the radar of the local po-po, itās game over, he will pull you over every dam timeā¦ask me how I know, and why my tint is now legal![]()
I would agree, although most canāt tell the difference between 20% and 35% without some kind of measurement tool. Certainly not when the car is moving. Just donāt give them a reason other than tint to pull you over because they will likely nail you for tint at that pointI agree about the legality issue. If you live in a "cash grab happy" state, I would keep it legal otherwise you will have issues, window tint can be a good "reason" to get pulled over even when you are doing nothing wrong. If you live where law enforcement are not so "cash grabby" then 20 is generally fine. Fortunately most where I live have common sense. As long as you are not acting an @$$ and doing dumb things, I never see anybody have an issue here...
Itās great the police have not bothered you yet. Being from Chicago myself I would get pulled over all the time in my ā88 and ā90 GTās. I just learned to avoid those towns and drive around them. Lol.I have 20%. Factory ātintā for SUVās and other cars that come tinted from factory is 20%, although itās dyed glass and not actual tint film. I did not tint my front windshield, visibility out of the sides and rear isnāt an issue. As others have said, go with ceramic tint.

Yeah, if you have problems driving at night, then 35% is the way to go. Yes on the AS1 marking though on some cars it doesn't give you much between the top of the windshield and the marking. If you're ever thinking of going to HI stick with 35% as that's their tint law. I just have the factory tint on mine as I hate it when the tint film bubbles or the edges peel after a few years; I also don't like the idea of them pulling my interior panels off to do the windows properly (I've had rattles and other issues afterwards). Most factory tint is between 85 and 80%.
Across my entire windshield, I'm using 70% (illegal in my state) ceramic. In most states, it's legal to install anything you want, from the top, then down to the "ASI" line.
On the sides and back, I have 30% (legal) ceramic.
The ceramic will shield you from UV rays and prevent a lot of the heat from entering. They do make 80 and 90% ceramic for windshields. With all the windows tinted and a black interior, no one can tell my windshield is covered.
I do not have any issues with sighting at night. I do wear prescription, polarized lenses.
Never been pulled over or questioned on tint. In my area, there are a lot of illegal installs. It's tolerated, to a point. People putting limo tint all-around (LOL) are usually pulled over. YMMV.
Being in the NE, if I only have to options, I'd gravitate to 35%. You have less direct light than other locations. At night, it should be easier to see. If you have concerns, I always recommend getting a junk piece from a shop; stick it somewhere on the glass and drive around for a few days.
Good Luck.Show us what you got once installed.

My daughter has 20% I think. I drove her car once at night and had to roll down the windows to see enough to make turns on tight intersections.20% is fine for night .... roll your windows down to see your mirrors. G
Facts. So glad I got my lights on my Bronco, drive through Rural areas at night, so been lurking in case I tint my Dads car, see whats said20% is too dark at night imo. I have it on the rear window and 35% on the sides. 35% is perfect
For me it's just not ok to drive around knowing if I get stopped for any reason I'm getting a ticket snd will have to take tint off or get 1000 buck fineI live in maryland and they don't pull you over for tint unless they really want to pull you for something else, other than speeding. Law enforcement is not typically initiaing traffic stops due to tint violations anymore. Trust me![]()
Iām not saying itās no longer a violation, Iām just saying LEOās donāt really enforce it anymore. Itās more used as a probable cause tool. I do agree with you though. For others including me, you do what you can standFor me it's just not ok to drive around knowing if I get stopped for any reason I'm getting a ticket snd will have to take tint off or get 1000 buck fine
