Is ceramic worth the extra? I'm in the Southern US, it gets hot in the summer and it's supposed to be hot today as well. I am fair skinned and burn easily if that makes any difference. I've always had the "standard" (inexpensive) tint on other cars but wondering if ceramic is "really" worth the additional cost?

Not only is it worth it, it is essential. Why spend the money just for the sake of looks when you can get some real benefit for a few dollars more. Ceramic makes all the difference in the world. Just do not forget to do the windshield. Get a low percentage film (70/80%) so visibility is not impaired and the cops will leave you alone.

Absolutely worth it. I have one car without ceramic and one with ceramic. I can tell the difference when I change cars. And the price on ceramic has come down over the years.

Blocking UV rays and not interfering with electronics are two huge benefits of ceramics.

According to the business that has done all of my tinting it's not worth the extra cost. He could have easily said "hell yes" and made over double the money. So I'm going with what a professional installer says. And he's not just an installer he owns the business.

Double? That’s a lot more than it should be. Ceramic film doesn’t cost that much more than a quality standard film. Knowing the advantages of ceramic what was his reasoning for not recommending it?

Gee, my installer who owns the business talked me into it on my 18 GT and I sure do not regret it!!!!! In fact, I asked for it when I got the Mach 1 and it was cheaper than the 18. He's the same installer who did the 64.5 and my 2014 Mustangs.

According to him ceramic cost a good deal more. I have no idea, just going by what he said. He didn't go into details about it, just said the it's not worth the added expense.

Far be it from me to disagree with a professional but honestly unless he was just trying to save you a few bucks this doesn't make sense.

I have no idea, I asked him about doing ceramic and that's what he told me. I was willing to spend the money if he had said it was better. And he's in business to make money, so....

I had thought about this. He (the tint guy) has a clear film that that apply on the windshield. Says it helps with glare. Glare is a huge issue with me. I guess I'm sensitive to it. When one of those jeep people with aftermarket LED headlights, or even any new pickup truck that is lifted and/or leveled (and they don't readjust the headlights) is oncoming, at night, I am blind. Does the windshield film help with this?

Not really. Windshield tint is different than the rest. It doesnt really change the darkness (it does but not much) and I have 40% formula on the front.

I have tinted ceramic on the back and sides of mine and clear ceramic on the front. My car stays amazingly cool when parked outside during the summer. Absolutely worth it.

Actually it does. Ceramic windshield tint is polarized (I see this with some of my polarized sunglasses as a purple aura). As such it does reduce glare. To what degree I cannot say. Different brands may offer more or less. That’s a recommendation for your installer.

Couple things to mention here.

Ceramic has great visibility seeing out of, but so does a carbon based film. Just do not get the cheapest tint and you should have good visibility. Ceramic does the best with blocking out heat, but if you want max benefit you should do front windshield.

My problem with getting ceramic comes from the price and the risk of having to re-do it. Its illegal to tint window your front windows on my state. So I run the risk of getting a ticket. Then if spend hundreds of dollars on just the front windshield and get a rock chip/cracked window you gotta re-do it. I also live in Michigan where half of the year I want more heat in my car not less. So ceramic never made sense for me and its not worth it for me.

Maybe living in a hotter more tint friendly state would be different. For now I usually go for the color stable carbon based.
